Not really retro I know but the latest accidental addition to the fleet. This car belonged to a friend of mine quite a few years ago but was then sold on and ended up as transport for one of my customers and his wife. It's an imported thing with about 1600cc and a noisy exhaust, BGW, Moomo knob, Nardi horn button and silly rear lights. (Standard rear lights and boot lid wanted please). Approximately mostly red in places with a few dings and dents but amazingly solid and with a long MOT. Suspected water pump problem so the PO bought a new car. Roof is ok, everything works, drives really quite well. Rear wing being modelled by MrMouseBladder It has engine. It has a left. Nice.... So there we go. A bit modern and not my cup of tea but with a paint freshen up and some re-putting-back-to-normalling it will do for something. All for less than the cost of a carrier bag, which is nice.

Please kill those lights with fire and the Bgw should net you a tidy profit with the drift boys.
Try Junkyard Dog (John) on Facebook/Nutz he seems to be the go to guy for cheap bits

I've recently ended up with a 90 anus import. Cracking fun little car. Really decent feel to them on the road.

To be honest, after my first 3 experiences with these cars, I hated them. Hated, hated, hated. Not I the league of BINI hate but I just couldn't see any redeeming features.
Turns out I'd just had the misfortune of driving 3 utter pups. My boss' wife owns the green one you can just about see in the pics, it's a Monaco one. Goes really well and usually works despite doing 20 miles a year sometimes.
I wouldn't actively go and buy one of these as there are better, bigger, Opelier cars available but it was very cheap and I couldn't refuse it.
Kinda looking forward to transforming it into something that looks nice and can stay on the fleet for a while. I'm a bit suspicious about the 7 air fresheners that were in it.....

Due to the persistent but not actually the water pump leak from the engine, I did investigations. The silly thermostat housing pipe connector bit had rotted apart and was leaking onto the crank pulley (hence the mess) . I fixed this using science. Tapped the housing after removing the offending bit, threaded a replacement T piece and attached the two bits. Hopefully problem solved. Mmmmmmmmmessy

That's even worse than my engine bay, where the T piece had broken and a leak from one of the rear heater hoses.

Its got to be retro at nearly 25 years old right?!
I had one in Red/Faded Pink. I rattle canned it Black. Id recommend not following my lead.
It was actually a really good drive. I felt like a tit with the roof down whilst in traffic though.

I think because I'm older than I pretend, anything after 1983 is just modern and anything after 1990 is too modern. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely understand the why and how of this little car, it's fun and noisy and handles brilliantly, I bet it'll be 100% reliable and it's even dry indoors despite the soft roof. Anyway, after fixing the stat housing, I've started the tidy up. The front wing needs paint. It's a poor match and mega thin. Looks ok in the dark. Things to do : Rear lights Service Brakes are noisy Vacuum Bodywork Looks like it'll be returned to standard rather than modified. Hopefully this will make it more user friendly for those of us who will be driving it.

Good effort finding a mk 1 minus rust, they seem to have turned a bit of a corner now and more are ending up as restos or properly thought out and done track cars (as opposed to shonky Barry boy efforts). You're not the long one who is older than they pretend to be

It's remarkably rust free. Back ends of the sills have been done but not seen any other rust or patches apart from some minor bubbles on the left rear arch. This place seems to be a social club for age denial experts. Not a bad thing.

Small amount of time spent today, vacuuming and cleaning along with a small delivery from Autolink. Made this cleaner but didn't take a picture afterwards. .. This bit is better. .... I think the hoop is going too.. This end is waaaaaaaaaaay better without those stupid lights. Indoors cleaned up.. Radio tomorrow. Old, basic and expendable JVC CD player.

Not retrieved PMs as they are not loading on this silly phone and it's even taken me all day to reply to this thread! Will blag some computer time tomorrow to catch up.
In the meantime it's running really well although the small hole in the roof seems to be directly above my man potato area.
Sent from my useless GT-I9195 using proboards
