I usually understand most off the madness that is the dva But this has got me baffled Christmas last year I bought a 1933 standard ten on eBay with the intentions off making a cheap hotrod So once I bought it I had it transported from Wales to Belfast Now this is where the fun happens I got the v5 swapped over to my name ok and when I checked online and I screen shot it because the dva here in Northern Ireland had closed and I didn't want any hassle I knew it was coming up for renewal time even tho I haven't actual drove it yet so I went and checked again Here is some pics for your time

Did you retax it or sorn it after you got it and did the change of keeper If not that's why.
It may have changed but 10 years ago I sold a vehicle to someone in Belfast and we couldn't do the normal change of keeper it had to be declared exported.

There is no dva Northern Ireland any more it's all handled by Swansea
I completely understand what you are talking about tho we used to buy gte Astras and " import" them even tho we could tax them threw Swansea I completely understand why the one here in ni was closed tho massively complicating revenue makers
My original question still stands how can it be taxed yet not for road use
Do I have to pay if I want to drive it as a daily even tho it's tax and not exempt

Would it be because it's tax exempt as I suppose it will still have to be taxed or sorned but you probably won't get fined unless it is on the road

Have you ever taxed it in your ownership? Don't you have to pay for the tax on a historic vehicle once and then claim it back? As above, this may mean you can't sorn it and the system is pointing out that you have personally never taxed it in your ownership?

It appears from your second screen shot that the DVLA has your vehicle "Registered in 2005"
Although your car is clearly an historic vehicle "Manufactured" in 1933, it appears from the DVLA website that perhaps this has caused confusion and you may have to contact them and apply for the historic class and tax it that way.
I don't believe there is any charge for the 1st time you tax it and then claim it back.
INF34 page from the DVLA web will explain the process.

Have they changed the wording from unlicensed to try and make it easier to understand?

Depending on how long after purchase the first screen shot was it may have shown it as taxed under the previous keeper. Can take a few days for the system to update. As the new owner it's your responsibility to tax it (or SORN) upon purchase. Maybe the system updated after your screen shot and if you haven't taxed/SORNed it during your ownership then it will be recorded as untaxed.

Hi, I think it's one of the vagaries of the old system to the new. It was taxed for a year before the new system came in so it would have an historic tax disc which is now about to run out. Although the tax rate was nil it still had to be taxed and have a disc. So you will now have to 'tax' or SORN it.
