Hi all, here's something I have NEVER done on RR, an actual build thread! (I know there's an ancient thread about my tat on here somewhere, but most of that is long gone) Anyway, this all started with my old man, who bought a suzuki sj ages ago (actually on the same trip, I bought my first m10 prairie off will), and proceeded to modify it with all the usual 4wd gubbins. He then bought a 2nd one, intending to go even further with the mods on this 2nd one. While he had the body off that one, to weld it up, I had a good look at it, and thought hhmmmmm, maybe there's something cool lurking there. So, I had a google, and weirdly one of the best suited things was a trabant, but while I did very much like the idea, especially the p600, the narrow track combined with the width of the suzuki chassis meant narrow rear wheels or flared arches - nope. This idea stayed with me though, and then after finding they do a long wheelbase suzuki sj, and a flash of inspiration, I *thought* I'd cracked it - all I needed was the sj, and a few other bits fast forward to a few months ago, and I managed to find one, on good old ebay, the only thing was it wasnt exactly close, being in bury st edmunds, and me being, well, in wales. Undettered, I set off, and what I definately didnt do was use an unbraked single axle trailer and my e36 tds to drag it home....

Almost on the road: b11 sunny breadvan, e36 tds, 325i skidcar,
nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,
not in this lifetime: ruby, '29 hillman

So, next thing to do, take off all the bits of body I don't need, which is pretty much all of it apart from the bulkhead and floorpan around the front seats. Rear roof posed no problems, except being bloody heavy, front roof section just unclipped, then it was onto removing the screen section, along with built in wiper motor, the door tops and the rear door, and the roll hoop. No problem doing any of this, though couldn't believe one of my neighbours started burning rubbish on such a lovely evening OH NO WAIT THE SUZUKI'S ON FIRE!!!

Thankfully, the po had left an extinguisher in the cab, and after yanking the battery off and dousing the smouldering plastic in foam, it was very minor, just a melted throttle cable - phew! More updates once I've got some more pictures!

ooh ooh ooh! I think I know what's going to happen (assuming other South coast based purchases are involved) in which case I'm SUPER excited.
bookmarked!
p.s. sorry I didn't say hi at RRG, thanks for accepting my hubcaps wheels into the tat pile

i know its not what youre doing, but some useful info is than a SJ chassis is pretty much the same width/rail dimensions as a model A, but with the kickup and 5 link. rear axle the same PCD and right width for a fendered car too, so you could chuck the whole lot under the back of a fendered car for a fit and forget setup.....

A 4wd Model A? Sounds like my type of stupidity.
These things commonly get 4A-GE's swapped in over here, as the stock 1.3's are harder to build up for power. The standard G13 in the Sj413's had 47kw when brand new, even the fuel injected G16's in the Vitara/Grand Vitara/Baleno only had 68kw, whereas a silvertop 4A-GE has nearly double that. At least the drivetrain's in the SJ413 are tough enough to cope with the extra power though, should you ever need a 4WD wheel spinning Trabant..

Were you aware that the SJ413 is still available new in some parts of the world? They are made in India. We can get them here in New Zealand through the Suzuki motorcycle dealerships but due to our BS new safety laws we can't road register them so they are sold as farm vehicles only. If one had an old rusty one with the number plates still alive however a dodgy workaround might be achievable. Like the look of those two examples you posted kabman. I notice the Morris Minor is left hook. Is that a California plate on it? The BMC ADO16 or even the Allegro might also be a good candidate for this treatment.

igor The Maruti stockmans (MG410) are more akin to the SJ410, than the 413. But generally we use japanese parts to repair the indian made ones, because the quality is better.

The Aussie ones might be a bit different sciclone. Does the Maruti have a 1.0 litre engine like the old SJ410 too? My local dealer reckons that the Suzuki Farmworker he sells is a dead set SJ413. He could be wrong of course. Not surprised that the J parts are better quality. I found the same thing with my Honda when my Gran crashed it and the pirate panel from Taiwan required a bit of cutting and bending to make it fit. I expect the J parts cost more too. Here's the link to the NZ dealer network. www.suzuki.co.nz/Automotive/Farm+Worker/Farm+Worker+Multi+Purpose+4X4/

well this is a rare event - lets take a look at the justifications for a bookmark kevfromwales doing a build thread - poor quality wobbly children's play pony curse word is easier to find SJ413 Being modified - by first removing all the body - err different I thought these things were purchased along with a 4 inch lift kit and rock crawlers Said SJ413 being from my neck of the woods - result one less round here 10/10 A fire in the first page and it's still all good - excitement and challenges in double measures Nope I think on balance I shouldn't bother bookmarking it Who am I kidding - booked marked and in for the ride
