1988 Ford P100 Pick Up - Custom Build
Ford Purple Velvet Metallic Paint
11 MONTHS MOT (July 2016)
Located in Aldershot, Hampshire GU12 post code
Totally Rust Free
It's Story:
The truck was bought new by the previous owners (Clive) boss for him to use to help get around the Farm & Lanes around where they lived. It has never had more than Hay Bales in the back and was cleaned inside and out every weekend by Clive himself until the truck was replaced when 5yrs old. Clive bought the truck from his bosses and proceeded to turn it into his dream custom truck. He & his pals fitted a Capri 3.0 Atlas Axle, rear suspension, Sierra XR4i front suspension, brakes and a Supercharged Buick V8 they had lying around. Clive used the truck like this for a while but the blown engne proved unreliable and so a new plan was hatched. Clive bought a low mileage 2.9efi Granada from an elderly local gent and decided this was the way to go. His body man sorted out the very small patch of rust in the tub, welded over the tye down hooks, smoothed the tailgate, relocated the tailgate catches to the inside, and added a few custom touches. (dark tint rear GLASS), Clear indicators, Brand new bonnet, Door, and cosworth grill. Everyone was using Cosworth bumpers at the time but Clive wanted to be different and bought BRAND new Xr4x4 one instead with fogs lower down. His body guy also welded up the hundreds of holes that Sierra's all have underbonnet and to this day it is as smooth as silk under bonnet. When th ebody was complete, the truck was sprayed in Ford Purple Velvet metallic throughout. Once finished, the low mileage Granada Engine & Box were given new gaskets, seals and a total freshen up before being transplanted in along with the 4sp Auto box and also Xr4i Power steering. Clive also fitted a BRAND NEW fuel tank and sender to the truck for piec of mind. The pump and swirl pots are under bonnet and were brand new Bosch items. The next part is rather sad. Not long after it was put on the road, Clive suffered horrific injuries in an accident which meant he no longer had use of his legs. The truck was fitted with hand controls and was used regularly for the 1st year but when the MOT ran out, Clive relaised that once sitting in the drivers seat, hauling his wheelchair across his lap was a big problem and he lost heart. There was no room for it behind the seat like in his daily and there truck sat in a barn on the farm until I bought it in July 2014.
I have a huge folder of receipts for item purchased, most from Ford. Also have original service book along with everything ever spent on this truck. Both sets of Keys are present includin fuel cap. It was regularly serviced in his ownership. Anything that needed doing - was done.
Fast forward to 2014. I had recently finished my build on a Mk5 Cortina (Build thread on here) and quickly realised that as it didn't have power steering, it wasn't a suitable daily for my Wife so I sold it on. With Cash burning a hole in my pocket, I saw the advert for Clive's truck. When I saw it in the barn where it had been stored, it was tired, covered in bird curse word and was quite outdated. (Those that remember when I got it will know what I mean) However, it was all surface dirt. The truck itself was still totally rust free and with a new battery and fresh fuel, she started 2nd turn of the key and ran great. A deal was done and Clive even came down South with the delivery truck a week later (On trust!, he didn't want a deposit!) That alone should tell you how honest this P100 is, Clive knew he had done everything to such a good standard, I couldn't fail to be impressed. When he arrived, I enquired how best to get it off the tow truck. Imagine my Surprise when he said "Drive it" I enquired about the brakes etc but he was adamant. 'Just remember they will be spongey' he said. So drive it off I did. The steering was light, the engine smooth and other than the brakes being tired, it drove lovely.
Over the next year, I have completed a total rebuild. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING has seen work done. I will not be able to list it all but here is a brief list.
: Underside thoroughly cleaned, checked for rot (NONE) and repainted with good quality stonechip
: Rear Axle stripped, painted, all bearings renewed, new shoes, wheel cylinders and drums refaced and painted. New Oil.
: Front legs stripped, checked for leaks (NONE) fully painted, calipers rebuilt, new pads etc. New Flexi hoses too. Inner & outer treack control arm bushes were fitted only 2 weeks ago and she was proffesionally tracked last weekend. (Bills to prove)
: Brand new Master Cylinder fitted, all new fluid, new handbrake cables etc. All pipework cleaned and checked. No issues.
: Interior fully stripped. Carpet cleaned, Cosworth Leather Seats fitted. Professionally refurbished RS 4 Spoke wheel fitted. Custom Raven Leather Door cards commissioned and fitted. Remote Locking. All electrics work inc heater on all speeds. New Wipers. Top Tint windscreen with no chips or marks. Dark tint rear glass, not perspex. Cosworth centre console installed (Needs minor fettling to make perfect)
: Semi-Stealth Hi-Fi install. Alpine CD Head unit with MP3, USP input. Hi quality oldskool Caliber CA70 Amplifier, 5" Rockford Fosgate Mid's, 1" Rockford Fosgate Tweeters mounted on A Pillars, RF Crossovers mounted on lower kick panels. Kenwood, Remote control Subwoofer with built in amplifer. All high quality fused cables used throughout. Sounds AWESOME with great sound staging!
: Bed deep cleansed (Rubber load liner in great condition), removable plywood magnetic graffiti panels made and fitted. Custom metal tool box in bed along with dual USB points, plus a 12 Accessory socket for charging laptops, phones, cool boxes etc. Volt meter also installed to keep eye on charge. If I was being picky, the paint on the sides of the bed isn't great, hence the graffiti panels. Bed cover also fitted. This is made up of quality box sectioned steel with ally top. Underside is fully tiger sealed so no vibrations, and is painted hurricane grey. The top is currently Matt Black but I hope to 'Granite fleck' it before sale. If I don't I will provide materials for buyer is required. Bed cover is hinged on Chrysler 300c Bonnet struts and effortlessly lifts and closes. Lockable using special key too.
: Body - Painted in Ford Purple Velvet. 3rd LED Brake light, tinted rear lenses, clear front indicators, Carbon Sparco sill covers, clear repeaters, Top Tint screen, smoothed tailgate, new plates etc etc. Bodywork is very clean and scrubs up lovely. There are a few scratches here and there that have been touched in and also a few car park dings (Easily sorted by dent master as paint not damaged) Overall, very presentable and has recently been clay barred.
: Engine & Box - All gaskets including head gaskets were renewed and engine/box fully checked over. In my ownership I did the obvious things any decent chap would do when re-commissioning - New Water Pump, new plugs, fresh oil, filters, coolant etc etc - Runs smooth as silk, with slick changes and perfect kickdown action. Engine mounts are tired but new ones will arrive with me next week so all will sorted. No issues at all. MOUNTS BEING DONE MON 17th AUG
: Steering - All fluids renewed, pipework checked etc etc - Works perfectly, no faults at all. Easy parking!
: Exhausts - Custom twin exit exhausts were fitted by Clive but I've had them moved as they exited next to rear plate. Now exit at slight angles below rear bumper corners. Sensible rumble when cruising. V6 Howl when booted. THIS will get you heard as and when you wish!
: Wheels & Tyres - Much debate went on as to which wheels to fit. I pondered everything from banded steels to Escort Cosworth but they have all been done to death. I wanted something different. Here is where Ebay and beer shouldn't mix. What I thought would end up being a few hundred quids worth of 'something different' turned into almost £1500 worth of Schmidt Modern Line wheels in 4x108 Stud Pattern (Rare) These are 8x16 front. 9.5J rear. They were all stripped and proffesionally 'chrome' powdercoated at great expense and shod in brand new Kuhmo A Rated 205/45/16 & 245/50/16 Tyres. (A rated in rain as well as dry) I have new centre caps to go on but are waiting still for the custom Schmidt logo gel badges. (These will be passed to new buyer)
I really could go on all day about all the things I have done to this truck, but I am sure you can see the ££ and effort used.
The Car:
It’s all road legal now with the MOT. Drives really nice. The V6 is effortless and she pulls like a train in every gear.
1990 2.9efi Cologne, 12v, 4ALD box - Silky smooth changes with good economy too.
300 odd miles only since rebuild - new FORD speedo fitted. All gauges work exactly as they should. Rev counter & Oil pressure gauge are dash mounted.
Brakes and suspension all new and good, with no knocks or bangs. This truck will go over ANY speed hump you point it at as ride height is sensible. Easily made lower if that is your bag. I was going to but too many humps in Aldershot.
Interior is in good condition, with no rips or tears. The seats show signs of wear, but nothing to shout home about. The leather has been fed well and is supple with no rips or tears. the cab itself is a lovely place to be, not cramped at all.
Everything works as it should – this really is a drive anywhere retro daily that gets noticed EVERY time you drive it.
Comes with: All Keys!, Previous history, bills, service history etc etc. I can provide over 100 photo's of all work carried out on a USB Key for the owner if required.
Please be sensible with your expectations - This IS almost 30 years old after all. You will find no rust or grot but it is not concours. I have agreed valuation of 6k currently and that is too cheap in some circles. (I think relaistic) P100's are getting rare now. This might be an individual build BUT more crucially, it is easy to personalise if the new owner so chooses. All the hard work is done. This truck needs NOTHING. (Once engine mounts changed) - BEING DONE MON 17th AUG
Insurance costs me just £113 per year with agreed value and 5000 limited miles.
Sold as seen. No warranty is given and / or implied. The car has been described honestly and to the best of my ability. Any inspection / viewing is welcome and highly encouraged, as everyone’s opinion of an old car will differ.
The car is located in Aldershot, Hampshire GU12 post code. Please contact me by PM 1st for any further information or to arrange a viewing. Unless you can provide me with proof of Fully Comp insurance, you will not be driving this. Time wasters WILL NOT be tolerated. Genuine buyers can PM me, and I will either message or call you back, up to you.
Price is £5500ovno - Reason for sale? Wife has realised that at this time in my life, I want to work through my bucket list before it's too late. 1st Grand child on the way and I am 45 this month so obviously I need a V8!!
I'm not really up for PX or swaps unless you happen to have something V8 Auto I like or 'Really special that happens to be on my bucket list' - A Ford Corsair or anything cool thats AUTO
