I subscribe to Fuel magazine through a UK magazine importer If you don't know it you've probably not spent much time on car websites / blogs / forums in the last three years, but for those who don't its an Australian written car culture magazine - a lot of hot rods and customs, usually some bikes and some crazy stuff in between. Who imports Australian magazines? I asked Graham at American Auto Mags about Aussie titles in but he's said it's not really economically viable to him to bring them in considering the shipping costs etc. I've read a few copies of Cruzin which looked quite good quality and was a different perspective from the usual British and US based mags. Apart from anything else it means you don't keep seeing the same names over again.

Apparently WH Smith will get you FUEL, but you need to take out a subscription with them.

You can pre order on the magazine man website but they let me set up a Three issue subscription and will likely do the same for others if you email them. It takes a while getting here, and as Fuel have increased the issues they make a year I have found that they are just about to release one as the previous issue arrives, but thats what happens when you're trying to ship from the other side of the world! Some WHSmith stores do have it on the shelf (Ipswich seem to get 2-3 in, but I've never seen it in Chelmsford, Colchester or Basildon) but they seem to have the same time issues - i've never seen it in store before I've already had mine in the post.

I subscribe to Top Gear and Evo.
I used to buy Performance VW and Fast Car religiously, but as I've got older (boring!) I've lost interest in the most of the styles of modified cars they feature. I also used to buy Autocar every week before I got into PVW and FC.
There are so many magazines I like the look of but I guess restraint needs to be applied!
I have in the past tried downloading magazines to my iPad but couldn't get on with it and went back to paper!

The only magazine I have stuck with is PPC. Probably because they are very much warts-and-all and it's nice to know that I am not alone in my failures. It has got noticeably thinner though, but then the early magazines were full of technical guides on suspension, engines etc... and as far as I am aware the laws of physics haven't changed since then so they would be repeating old articles. I have bought Practical Classics and Retro on the odd occasion if something catches my eye. I was a staff car writer on Retro Ford for about a year and so automatically received the magazine each month but although the content was very good it was of course marque specific which for me limits the appeal. Saying that, I really need to get on and finish my mk3 Escort!

Aside from my mini club magazine, I read Klassiek & Techniek, a Dutch magazine about classic cars (and sometimes a classic bike or other transport) and restauration or maintenance. And the adventures the owners have in their cars. I have a subscription since number 8 or so. Back then, the magazine was completely black and white... www.klassiek-techniek.nl/

I've got every issue of CCC and every issue (bar about six I think) of CAR, plus thousands of other old mags so I tend to grab a pile or binder and spend a few weeks poring over them. I subscribe to CAR which I still enjoy (I like moderns too), and I've been bought a Classic & Sportscar subscription for the past couple of Christmases. I wouldn't buy that myself though, there's only so many times that a classic car mag can find a different way to feature another red MGB or TR4 etc, if I want road test insights I've got all the original ones! Can't be doing with single marque mags, I flick through them in the shops or at mates houses from time to time but they don't hold my attention for long. Can't be doing with the likes of PPC etc either, I've got all that covered by the very excellent forum you're reading right now

I used to buy a lot of car magazines - thinking back I think I used to get Car, Custom Car, Street Machine, Auto Trader and a couple of others every time they were printed. The trouble is, I find it difficult to get rid of them, so pretty much had to stop due to space constraints. I used to get a lot of car magazines through work, because we sold a car-related product we'd get on mailing lists, used to get stuff like Banzai, a BMW magazine, Auto Italia, 911 & Porsche world, loads like that. I bought PPC when it first started, mainly as they were building a Chevette with the 2.3 engine and fitting ECU and fuel injection - trouble was, they blew the engine up while trying to get it started and dropped the project.
These days I find that I am put off by the cover price - most magazines are the best part of a fiver now, you can cut out more than half for adverts (many of which are in every month) and I just can't justify the cost for the content. If there's an article about a car I'm particularly interested in, chances are I'll just wait until I see it next year at an autojumble on the "three for a pound" stall, at least that way I don't feel bad about cutting out the article and binning the rest.
Pretty much the only time I buy new magazines is at shows like the NEC Classic Car show in November. Most of the magazines will sell the current issue for £1, or do a short subscription at, say, five issues for £5. You sign a direct debit, remember to cancel it before it gets converted into a full one, job done. Various web sites now do these offers, sometimes I'll get a phone call offering a cheap sub. It's not just car magazines either - I've got some old National Geographic that can be interesting, some Architectural Digest have some cracking stuff in them. I'm trying to kick the habit but had to concede when I was looking at a pile of Nat Geo on a car boot sale (some unopened), and the seller said "you can have them all for 50p". Now I just need to find somewhere to put them.

Practical Classics & Classics Monthly because I love classics and subscribe to both mags. Impressions - Imp Club monthly rag, because I love Imps and the mag comes with club membership. Any other publication that interests me, usually because it has some Rootes or 70s rally content.

The only ones I bother buying nowadays are Practical Classics (I read it to death) occasionally Classic Bike, and the odd mountain bike mag. However... I've just found these, and several more issues at my mother's house and I'm thoroughly enjoying the trip down memory lane!

I've learned a lot about making repair sections (a lot from the TonyBMW thread on here), welding and so on, and I've recently learned that filling and smoothing isn't an easy job either. You're right about the site - it was a reasonable idea at the time but needs a serious update, and I broke my own rule about date-related stuff (if you can't keep it up to date, don't put dates on in the first place). The Sportshatch resto page hasn't been updated for ages, I just can't find the time to put stuff in there, split it into pages and so on, hence I added the link to the same thread on the DSG website.

Used to buy loads back when Street Machine, Rod & Custom UK etc. were about.
These days it's just Custom Car (bought every issue since June '76), Street Rodder (Rod & Custom too until it was merged) and I've recently started buying Hop Up through Graham at AAM.

I subscribe to Practical Classics and have done for a long time as I think on balance it is well laid out with accurate articles and good photos. I also like Classic Monthly but mainly due to the Stag resto feature they have had running, which has been exceptional IMO. I enjoy PPC but found it a bit lacking in content so only buy it when they have something of interest (for me). I also enjoyed Retro Cars in it's early days but it doesn't seem to get distributed much in Scotland so again only buy it when I see it and if there is something of interest.
I do see that these mags are all becomeing part of big groups and you can see same/similar articles appearing in their sister titles which puts me off a casual purchase as I have seen & read it all before. Like others have suggested the rising cover price is an issue as it certainly maikes you think twice when you buy a mag full of ads which seem on constant repeat in pretty much every magazine.
Does anyone subscribe and receive these mags on Ipad/Hudl etc.?
