Hi folks, I have been thinking about getting a pug 205 diesel for a while now. I would want to lower it front and rear and my question is this . . . how interchangeable are gti front struts, hubs and brakes? I understand the lesser 205s have a track control arm with the anti roll bar mounted through it where as the gti has wish bones and an antiroll bar with drop links, is this right? Can you swap to the gti set up without changing the hub carrier? And if i don't change the carrier can i fit bigger discs and callipers? and gti anti rollbar? Whats in my mind it a gti rep (ish) on a diesel then look at td engine swap. So any pug fans had any experience with this type of thing? Cheers Steve.

From memory, the struts are the same apart from ARB tab is on the GTI strut, same main mountings though.
I'm pretty sure you can swap to the GTI setup without changing the hub carrier and you should be able to fit brakes from the GTI, but I think you have to do a bit of mix and match to get the disc offset right something like you can fit the 1.6 GTI calipers (which are the same as the base model but with a wider carrier for the vented discs) with 1.9 discs. Or you fit some of the other larger Pug/Citroen brakes from 306's/xsara's etc.
I'm sure someone will correct me on some of that as it's been years now since i've had a 205. What diesel is yours now? I think the DTurbo and maybe the STDT already had the GTI front suspension.

Thanks George, Ive not bought one yet lol! I'm still at the trawling through ebay/ gumtree/ anywhere else stage at the mo I'm going to be on a tight budget ( I'm starting college soon at 45 scary!) and don't want to end up buying stuf twice because this bit wont fit with that etc. being skint is also the reason I'm thinking diesel as college is 25 miles away. Iv heard you can turbo the the non turbo engine but its cheaper to just swap the whole td engine and set up from the 306? Any info on this would also be welcomed. Thing is if I'm swapping an engine would it be easier to start with a diesel engined car ( they seem to be more money than petrol) or could i use a petrol model? Sorry for all the questions

I believe what George said is right, it does sound it anyways. I think the turbo ones had gti setup and the na's had base model spec. Swapping petrol stuff to a diesel would be a bigger pain than you think, all the fuel lines and tank will need to be changed over. The engines mounts could be different on a derv to a petrol I cant remember right now haha. Swapping a diesel to a diesel would be ok, there's a few guys online that have done the swaps

Or get a base model 205. They are really economical on fuel, even if they are a wee bit slow

I think some of the later petrol cars had single point fuel injection, so they would have fuel retun pipe to the tank would they? Like you say i think the diesel to diesel engine swap would be easier though. Iv heard you can get more power by adding an intercooler to the td engine?

Yes I believe so. (not actually owned a injected one ) Yes adding a FMIC adds power, also if its a Bosch pump you can get more for free

There is some interesting stuf in those links, only thing is the dturbo engines seem quite rare compared to the amount of hdi engines out there and the hdi is not as easy to fit.

DTurbo is a trim spec, i.e the later 306 DTurbo had a HDI engine...
there never was a 406 "DTurbo" but there were millions with the 1.9 TD engine.
The XUD9TE engines aren't rare at all though are getting old now.
dropping a HDI in isn't difficult at all, it would be easier to start with a gti due to the electronics, and lift pump etc.
best bet is to look up on the 205gtidrivers forum, there's quite a few diesel perverts there too.

why not just buy a 205 stdt, its the 1.8 td, but with gti looks, brakes and suspension (1.6 gti) some came with 1.6 gti wheels and others had 1.9 gti wheels. lovely cars, mine had the bosch pump, i don't know the stdt had the other pump (lucas i think).

i bought one off here quite a while ago, loved that car, just too slow for me.
i got it for £300 and did the headgasket. sold it for £1000 with bad paint.
fitting an hdi engine is easy enough, you wouldn't need a 2.0, id go for the 1.6 110 bhp. or go all out and fit a 2.2 hdi :L
