Had an SVX as a daily in 2013/14 for 6 months or so.
Despite all of the stories you hear it was utterly reliable and I can absolutely guarantee the car I've least opened the bonnet on.
If you think of them as cruisers/GTs (and not 911 competitors as seemed to be the contemporary claim) they really are great cars in almost every way............except for the gearbox.
The engine was sonorous and punchy but you could feel the dimwitted, glacially slow gearbox actually work against the engine. Awful.
I'm sure those who have gone to the effort to do a manual swap have been rewarded with a great car.
I sold it to get a 1st gen Impreza Turbo wagon and although I had great fun in the Impreza which I kept for about the same time I think if I'd had the space to store one it would have been the SVX.
