Same as pictures below, Ive got a 3- Cylinder 1.2 Carbed mk1 Subaru Justy with the 4WD. .. now the engine is knocking and theres definatly no oil circulating. After a brief look online, it seems theres a common fault with the oil pump housings cracking and causing this exact problem. It does run and fire up nicely.. just knocking which is a shame. SO, I'm asking if anyone knows of any other much more powerful / readily available engines that fit the 4WD gearbox?.. No issues making mounts up etc..
.. are there any Kei suzuki powerplant varients that mate up to the drivetrain?
Any advice greatly appriciated Apparently the drivetrain can take a good hike in power.

What about a swift gti engine? 1.3 twin cam. Surely that should fit as they are pretty similar cars

I had the same Justy, the Hitachi carb is awful. 4AGE looks like it would fit! Rear diff won't take a lot of power though. Gearbox will take up to 200 bhp. Impreza engine has been done but a lot of cutting and welding.

There's an Impreza build thread if you do a Google search.

The gearbox is transverse with a transfer unit to the prop which runs to the rear diff..
I'm not wanting to cut up and fabricate the whole car..
I'm wanting a replacement engine that's cheap and a nice jump in performance would be great..
Worse case scenario, the same engine but one I can actually source would suffice..
Not wanting 300bhp.. We have loads of projects on for that.
Cheers for the input guys! .. any ideas WHAT Suzuki blocks fit? I wouldn't mind if I had to use the original justy head.

From memory, the Suzuki Swift mk1 has mounts in the same positions. The chassis was the same as the Subaru Justy mk2 (which was 4WD). Justy mk1a and mk1b had both the 1.0 and 1.2 engines (EF10 and EF12). The Swift had the GTi engine, I reckon this would be the easiest swap to do. I think the later Subaru engines had an engine code starting with EF, which leads me to believe they have a similar block with same mounts. Swap the rear diff though as they can't cope well with the extra power. Mark (who bought the MX5 engine off you a while ago) has a GTi engine if you need to check stuff. Justy: Swift GTi:

Another vote for the mk1 swift gti engine here, absolute gem of an engine waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of it's time.
Revs to silly rpm, 100+ bhp stock.
