I've put it off for far too long, I'm going to have to service our normal car - a 1999 Galant V6. I've spent the last 10 years owning odd stuff that I've got to track down service parts for, but where can I get oil filter, sump washer etc for a Galant? Partco don't have all the bits, don't make me walk into Halfords, please I'd rather not go to a dealer because it's 25 miles away and I got bored of paying £5.50 for a brass washer some time ago Gareth

Do partco not stock the bits? Or do they just not have 'em on the shelf.
Unless its some crazy import model I would not have thought it difficult to get service bits for this car from any decent motor factor. They would probably have to order em like, but thats no big deal.

They didn't have the drain plug washer, didn't ask if they could order it - good move. As this is driven by my better half with the kids I don't really want it to be trailing oil down the road because the first I'd know about it was when the oil light had been on for a day

I get all my parts from Motorworld/Charlie Browns. They never have the parts in stock, but they order them in and deliver them (usually same day) from some warehouse or something. The only thing I had to wait more than a day or two for was a thermostat. The parts are usually by a company called Blueprint who sell various Japanese brand stuff reboxed as their own. Prices are very good in my experience, too.

I`ve always managed to get most stuff for my Galant from either a local bog standard factor called Low Kost or Andrew Page`s, depending on whos cheaper and who`s got a van that isnt currently 50 miles away. Never had a problem with service kits etc. Had to resort to the dealer for the hub assembly when the wheelbearing started doing an Me-109 impression but it wasnt that expensive, I had to be seated when I heard the price but didnt require resuscitation afterwards. Only stumbling block was the distributor, dealer wanted about £500 for one, so I went to a local japanese specialist breaker, and they did a mickey mouse version for just over a ton, and the car runs perfectly with it. In fact anything you are struggling with can probably be sourced by such a place, all the specialist breakers I`ve ever dealt with seem to able to lay their hands on anything they havent got in.
