Another amazing Thursday visit to the Goodwood Moving Motor Show Festival of Speed. What, there were new/boring cars there? Didn't really notice. No interesting action on the hill climb but I still managed to get a small dose of racing engine noise courtesy of a racing Mazda rotary warm up, stadium truck racers mooching about and some others. The Style et Luxe and the Paddocks were virtually full with only a few cars left to arrive late in the day. Even if you take it as a static car show it is still way beyond what you can get to see pretty much anywhere else. I'll stick up a few photos now but may well add more later. First shot of the day. Really like this years sculpture. I'd deffo have it in my back garden. Beast of Turin was parked out front too. Actually, you know what. I'll come back and do better thread/commentary when I've a bit more time later and can do more justice to it all. So for the time being I'll just leave this here.

A few nice pics Seth, I'm there Saturday and Sunday, it's my first time and although I know it's mainly modern stuff I can't wait! I hope the beast of Turin goes up the hill, the sound should be biblical!

A few nice pics Seth, I'm there Saturday and Sunday, it's my first time and although I know it's mainly modern stuff I can't wait! I hope the beast of Turin goes up the hill, the sound should be biblical! There is a lot, if not a majority of 'old stuff' in action over the Festival weekend proper. Its only the Thursday where the moving motor show takes over and its only new cars going up the hill. OK, a few more photos. First stop was the Style et Luxe and that black F40. I am a bit of an F40 purist really, a normal red one would do me fine (if you're buying...) but this black monster looked superb. Contiuning unusual supercar colours, a non-blue EB110 Figoni et Falashi creations were another class. Bonnet was up on this Delahaye as they were trying to get it started but it wouldn't catch. Lots of engine turning - I wonder if it was like that when new? Bugatti I predict this will be the most photographed radiator mascot of the weekend. Voisin! Interior quite restrained for one of those creations. I think it might be goose leather or similar. More stunning curves and details. Coachbuilt DSs were another feature. This was my favourite. A 2 door coupe DS with the sort of roof any other manufacturer would have bought in it in the first place. Coachbuilt 50s/60s Ferraris too. Sad news is the relocation of the supercar paddock into what was the fabulously crowded and sometimes chaotic Cathedral Paddock which used to house a lot of the the older racing cars. A few of those had been relocated to where the supercars used to be. The glut of the race cars were up in the main paddock though. I'll get to them next...

Really enjoyed yesterday. Soooooooooo much Mazda rotary goodness to wallow in. Epic.
Funny thing happened in the Supercar paddock (not sure I like the new/old layout of the supercars being in the Cathedral paddock TBH but anyway). I was wedged in between a car and the side of the tent and this American bloke was blocking the way out, yabbering away on his phone. I very politely asked if I could get past to get out. He tssked irritatedly and turned his back, still blocking the way. I waited a couple of minutes and tried again. This time I didn't even get a tut. So I walked out through him. My mate says "do you know who that was?" and I said "yeah, some ****** ignorant Yank ******" or words to that effect. He thought it was hilarious and pointed out it was James Glickenhaus, the bloke who'd locked horns in Ferrari in court over his P4/5 creation currently sitting on the Cartier Style et Luxe lawn. Just goes to show having the money to be able to blow $4m on one car doesn't mean you can buy manners or class.
Looking forward to going back on Sunday. Don't expect he's learned any humility or common politeness in the meanwhile

Soooooooooo much Mazda rotary goodness to wallow in. Epic. Yeah, rotaries in full effect, yO! Wheel cleaning. Reflections of Indianapolis success. Exhaust 'blown' wing. Air cooled flat 12 goodness. This car hadn't run for 40 odd years. They were hoping there'd be enough time to get all the pieces back in place before Friday. Cute very early Alpine. Alpine. Willys. 300SLR inboard drums. Iconic '55 Mille Miglia winner. One of the main reasons I wanted to be there. Don Garlits' Swamp Rat 1. His first visit to the FoS. And the man himself. I got a signed poster thing natch. No tube chassis here, just early Ford looking rails. Belgian team Ferrari 512p. The only yellow one. Rotary fixing. More Flat 12 goodness. I liked the Martini bag to match the car's stripes. This is what F1 looked like when I think I was first aware of it, aged about 5. Gulf Mirage and matching monkey bike. I wondered if these Ferrari mechanics were looking for tips on how to win at racing? 'That' Mustang. These are either 'Chevy's' with Chevy engines or 'Toyotas' with Chevy engines. I kept on wandering about from here to there and by the time I popped back to the bottom paddock later in the afternoon Babs had arrived. The V8 Darraq was there too. That class of massive engined early cars is superb - wish I could be there to see them running. I'll finish with these curves. Loads more photos here though. link
