Hi guys,
I have a 5m led strip that I want to put up in the back of my van. It should run off the 12v without any drivers needed but has anyone tried this and does anyone know of a good splice to use to come off the cable that powers the rear interior light. Thanks Tom

Yes I did it with my Combo van, just connected to the rear curtesy light. They make a lovely job of illuminating things.
It might be worth checking the current draw though If you are going to have them turned on for long periods of time

Are you wanting to have to lights working when the engine isn't running (camping) they do drain a battery if used without the engine running, I fitted similar in my old vw bus but ran them off the leisure battery I installed

Will an led strip really use that much juice? Not going to have them on ages at a time. Could I just splice off the light powering the interior light and put a small switch on it?

^ I've removed my courtesy lights (front & rear), have replaced front with single LED bulb, rear with pair or LED strips. Front is bright, rear is now "daylight bright" - ideal for sorting stuff in the back of the estate. I *think* power use is almost nil but not checked properly yet.

Apparently the new owner of my van says if you leave the door open all afternoon (ie the lights would be on) then you get a flat battery, on the other hand I would have it open for 1/2 an hour at a time loading and unloading and never had any problems.
