grifterkid - You should know my style by now mate, I think I'm going to patent the OEM+ look It'll follow the same lines as the Cavalier and the Granada and it will be just as secure. I'm so pleased with it. I think keeping it original will make it a rarer car as mentioned previously. Maybe not as desirable but I'm not sure. Sounds VERY good to me!!! I think a little lowering over some Dunlop D1's would look ace along with your standard super-deep clean... Keeping it original will make it more desirable as you just don't see this kind of Mk1 any more in comparison to all the RS's (genuine or not!!!) that are out there... I hope we get to see some updates from you very soon indeed!

As Grifterkid said, it's time for an update. I picked up the Escort today so I thought I'd take some more pictures for you all. First thing this morning I made the long journey up to the North. This is the most money I've actually ever spent on any car I've ever owned. So there was an element of nervousness on the journey. However once it was strapped on to the trailer and I saw the car for the first time in daylight I knew the decision was the right one. I've never had so many thumbs up or knowing 'nods' from other drivers than along the A1 on the way home. The Escort has such a following that I massively under estimated. Then on the way home just before I got to my lair the heavens opened inevitably. Oh well, it needed a wash anyway. So here it is. I also took some pics under the bonnet just to show you the sheer originality of this car. It's totally standard in every way. When was the last time you saw this on a rocket cover? I will hopefully update soon but this is at the bottom of the list for attention. All comments welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for looking.

More pictures yaaaay. Love the wheels - are they 12's or 13's? I'm sure some of the Mk1's came with 12's. Looks great regardless, keen to see where you go with it.

Lord13 - Sorry dude! Completely missed your post mate. The bodywork is better than expected. The best part about it is apart from some MOT repairs on the top of the turret, it's never been welded. It going to need new front wings, rear arches, front and rear balances. The underside looks solid! Sills are complete as are spring hangers. So I'm hoping that I won't find anything too nasty. It will look exactly like a Super is meant to with some OEM+ mods. I do love Lotus steels so that's an option although I adore the 12" wheels! So I'm torn. The engine is the very original one it left the factory with. 1100cc's of Ford power. I may rebuild that with the most performance and drivability I can get out of it, purely because it's the original.
Xbo11ox - Thanks buddy, you'll be pleased to know that the chrome trim is 100% staying on the car. I just need to carefully remove it first.
Jxke - Yes mate you're spot on. They're the original 12" wheels. They're so small but I love them. My biggest issue is whether I keep drums all round or upgrade to discs on the front. If I do then I don't want to lose the 12" wheels! That's a long way off yet though.

still not too bad on the welding front tho, your inner wings and strut tops look fairly solid and clean from the pics this is gonna be such a good project I don't know if you can get discs behind those 12inch wheels, but well maintained drums will stop you good enough. my 350 van is on drums all round and the brakes work great.

lord13 - Cheers buddy, it is actually a really clean car. Fairly solid too. I don't mind sticking with the drums. However I'm sure I can make something fit under the 12s. There must be a calliper and disc combo to make fit. grifterkid - Cheers fella. Although you might not be too impressed with the below update. blower - Cheers mate, I've not yet started the strip down as you can see below. djefk - Errr not quite. See below. So yes, as djefk asked. This is the current state of play with the Escort, I'd like to say I've done something, but I'd be lying. With all the other projects on the go, I've done nothing. I don't want to strip another car down with no room to put anything. I need to get a load of cardboard boxes, plastic bags and tags. Then I can start stripping. All comments, including abuse in this case welcomed.

I had no idea that they did the super with the 1100cc lump. My dad had a 1968 1300 super back in 78, metallic green and it had better spec seats from the factory, like a perforated vinyl, very springy and comfortable. You must have the last one left fella!
