I've just bought this, I've wanted one for so long, however I haven't found one that I could afford. This one came up for sale so I made the long trip North to go and see it. Within 10 minutes of being in the cars presence I knew I had to have it so a deal was done. The car is a 1969 Ford Escort Super. I'm only the 3rd owner from new and in that time it's only covered 88,000 miles. The car is an early Escort. It has never been modified at all which makes this car very special indeed. It's a totally standard car. The 'Super' had the square headlights up front, carpet, a cigarette lighter and a water temperature gauge! It's still on the original 12" wheels and has matching VIN number to engine number. The engine runs and the car drives. The plan is to do a full and total restoration from the ground upwards. I have seen so many cars like this made in to Mexico or RS2K replicas. However I'm going to keep this one a Super. That's what it was, so that's what it will be again. Albeit with a few tweeks here and there. Anyway here she is, I'll get some more pics at some point but I took these when I went to buy him. As usual with all my threads. All comments really welcome and appreciated.

Bookmarked........So glad this is going to remain as Ford intended and not yet another RS2000, Mexico, Zetec'ed lash up replica........they've more than been flogged to death. I do have a thing for Escorts as i had a MK1 Sport for a couple of years then a MK2. Look forward to watching this evolve.

Great find. I love these square headlamped mk1's . Bet those furry seat covers smell a bit ripe ..lol . Glad it's staying mostly stock ,it just needs a hot crossflow ,a little hit with the lowering stick and a set of banded lotus steels ,job done

That is just beautiful...!!!
Now alarm it, fit a tracker, fit an angry/hungry Alsatian, chain it to the ground and sleep in it...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so pleased this is going to be restored to original spec' as there are so few original Mk1 Escorts left these days...

Jimspolicev8sd1 - Thanks pal, yes it's staying original with just maybe some OEM+ features. Jxke - Yes you'll definitely see it around once it's finished. Having said that, my Cosworth hasn't seen daylight for 5 years after the restoration. Quickrack1 - I can't believe how untouched it actually is in fairness. The steering wheel is super cool. Got to love some period Bakelight. Cavboy80 - Thanks buddy, as soon as I saw it I thought it has to stay as a Super. I think it will actually make it a rarer car in the end. I'd love a MK2 one day. Oldskooldubs - I've not got close enough to the sheepskin covers to know, I don't intend to either I'll definitely be hitting it with the lowering stick and looking at wider wheels. I might just improve the current engine as it's the original one and that's rare in a car this old. Mercdan68 - Don't get me wrong I'd love a Mexico or RS2K but I can't afford one. I can just about afford this little Super and I think it's only proper to return it to how it was. 300 mk1s is bloody impressive! I'll definitely be keeping it under lock and key much like all the others in the fleet. 120y - As soon as I collect the car I'll happily do that for you pal. Düdo - Thanks buddy. grifterkid - You should know my style by now mate, I think I'm going to patent the OEM+ look It'll follow the same lines as the Cavalier and the Granada and it will be just as secure. I'm so pleased with it. I think keeping it original will make it a rarer car as mentioned previously. Maybe not as desirable but I'm not sure. Thrasher - Supers are indeed Super!!! It will certainly be lowered and stances don't worry. You'll be pleased to know that he still has a little old Dynamo under the bonnet. It's all totally as it was from new.

Since it is so rare to see such an early example original I'm still in shock to see it with steering wheel & two-tone interior designed for the mk1 Cortina facelift. Even the mirrors look mk3 Zephyr/Zodiac. The details of later examples probably suit the Escorts shape/style much better but you just HAVE to love it as is.

79cord - I was gobsmacked at how original the car is. I never knew the interior was destined for a MK1 Cortina so thanks for that. Andy-v - Stay tuned pal as I will be putting full updates on here as I go along. Avenbeam - All I can tell you is that it was a really mint low mileage example. It was in the collection that I bought the Escort from along with lots of other rare beauty's. Tom83 - You've got to love brown sheep skin seat covers!! SmokeEm - In that case I can confirm I have a total bargain! I did travel a 350 mile round trip as I thought the same as you. Thanks for the bookmark.

wow... hows the bodywork, it looks like its been mothballed for some years. I had a trusty mk1 auto for a while, till it went to some guy who was going to do a RS2000 build, glad you're gonna keep it 'semi' stock. If it was mine i'd go for Lotus steels, they would look so fine and thats about all i'd do to it. Apart from maybe a bit of engine tweaks whats it got in it? I'd say fit a 1300 screamer with a rocket box with nice ratios. keep it looking stock .. but it's your car, your choice, so i'm gonna bookmark this thread and wait excitedly and see what you do
