Years ago, my local Toyota dealer changed the rear wheel bearings on my 1000. When I drove off, there was a terrible noise, so I drove straight back into forecourt thinking they'd forgotten the diff oil or something. Turned out their airgun for doing up wheel nuts was wrecked so they were only on as far as the guy turned them by hand, cos the gun hadn't turned them at all.
The guy in video maybe a victim of a faulty airgun too?

total Bullplop. you know how far you actually have to drive to get wheels that are only finger tight to fall off? well, with normal driving, its about 2-3miles, sometimes a hell of a lot more. even thrashing, it wouldnt be that short a distance, and all 4 falling off at once? yeah right  its either sabotage, wheelnuts with a thread size larger than the studs, or some stupid stut for the camera. |

When I checked mine at the dealer's they'd only been put on a single thread or so, I couldn't believe the guy hadn't spotted that the gun hadn't done them up.
In the video, if all the nuts were lying around the area where the wheels fell off, they must've been on the studs at least a turn.
If they were light weight alloy (or whatever) nuts, what little thread was actually engaged could've stripped.
Seems more possible than somehow rigging them to all come off at once.

I'd say up the hill from Rmad's house, round the corner and about 200 yards on from that before they start knocking.... Or about 4 miles out from black8driver's workshop, going round a round about before they start knocking... Of if you are driving an Alfa Romeo all the way to Farringdon, and part way back with the girl you just met (who would later become your wife) before the wheel starts knocking..... I have a history of doing this........... |
