Yup, I got tired of the wear and tear cars get in the cold temperatures and salt, so to preserve my W123 a bit better, I bought this very cheap C180....
And not very retro, I know, but at least it is an early car that shares its M111 engine with the W202, and the shape is 15 years old, and besides, for the price I paid for it, I won't get very an*l about it, I will have fun with it, and try to put my personal touch on it, on a budget, at least until it starts to fall apart too much.
And maybe that is a bit of what RR is all about?
I've only owned retros in my whole life (maybe my 1989 Sierra was borderline since I had it i 2006?) and I won't treat this car any different.
But if the thread doesn't fit in here, I will not be sad if it will get deleted.
When I got it home....
A bit rough around the edges, but still possible to fix.
Interior..... Black fabric trim and plastic steering wheel.... El cheapo edition.
Powerplant....
As I said.....plastic steering wheel, absolutely horrible, I want to replace it, maybe with a wood/leather one, but they aren't really cheap.
Took it in for safety inspection.
It says
"Parking brake, too ineffective" (fixed, I hope.)
"Exhaust system leaking, not possible to check emissions" (fixed the exhaust system, that started leaking when I drove the car to the test station, sigh! I just hope that the emissions aren't too dirty then.....)
"Brake hose left front damaged" (bought new hoses for both sides since the other one looked a bit worn too, still left to change them)
"Removable trailer hitch, check not done" (TBH, I didn't know that it was removable until the tester told me so I didn't have the key for the hitch, fixed now.)
Not too bad.....
While I was adjusting the parking brake, I thought that some black hammerite on rotors and calipers couldn't hurt, at least it looks better than rust, right?
And yes, the winter rims are HIDEOUS!
This is how the muffler looked, like if it has some very bad disease......
I did an el cheapo fix and replaced it with a 2,5" straight pipe, and it didn't change the sound very much, just a bit more of a roam when accelerating on full throttle, and some burbling from the tailpipes (single inlet, dual outlets on the rear muffler) when the engine is turned off, but nothing that is irritating....
And now for this mornings fix...
"Hey, look at me, I drive a C180", wow, how cool?.....ehrm, not actually, right?
So I debadged the tailgate.... The star will stay though.
