In need of some guidance reference drill bit quality and good make. Need to drill one small 3mm hole in stainless exhaust but have tried many < supposedly for stainless > drill bits and gone through drilling process slowly not to generate heat but all types of bits have caved in. Need to go to a supplier where i can walk in and buy a recommended drill bit that will drill this one hole. Any info welcome Thanks

Stainless can be very hard to drill as you are aware, The fact you have blunted drills trying to do so, could make things harder still as you may have bits of drill embedded in the hole you have started or hardened the, my suggestion would be get a cobalt drill, drill if possible a new hole, I would also suggest a cutting compound generously applied, there are plenty to chose from, RTD, Tuffcut, Trefolux, even Tallow at a push. I would be thinking, assuming you are using a battery drill. use it on screwdriver mode, then you should not overheat the drill at all,

I have used drill bits from screw fix. Come in packs of 5, very surprised how long they lasted drilling many holes for riviting stainless. still using them now - Just resharped them.
