Been a little quiet at work lately (Me, not the business) and decided we needed to utilize the facilities we have a little better than we currently do. I work for a builders merchant specializing in Timber (I am a Senior buyer now that I have stepped down from middle management) This gives me more time to devise plans such as this. Basically, myself and two colleagues took 8no treated sleepers and in 1hr, made this..... Not sure they will catch on this year as season already well underway but maybe next year. (We will sell alongside our normal products) What do you guys think? I have seen similar on the internet for £250-£500 so would pitch in cheaper.

Love it (I have a pile of re - reclaimed sleepers in my garden waiting to be turned into something. These look great and I'd not be worried about them rotting in a couple of years like normal garden furniture. I suppose my only worry would be the treatment getting sticky in hot weather? Look great.

These look great and I'd not be worried about them rotting in a couple of years like normal garden furniture. I suppose my only worry would be the treatment getting sticky in hot weather? Look great. Don't use reclaimed sleepers for anything like a table, bench etc. They contain all sorts of nasties so should be used for landscaping and such. From June 30th 2003 EEC and British law ruled that: Used Creosoted railway sleepers COULD continue to be sold & used safely with some exceptions and guidelines: **They should NOT be used where there is a risk of frequent skin contact, (e.g.schools, play areas, benches etc..) **They should NOT be used where where they may come into contact with food stuffs, (e.g. picnic tables) **They should NOT be used inside buildings. (e.g. fireplaces and lintels) There was NO PROBLEM with USED UNTREATED railway sleepers, NEW untreated or ACQ tannalised sleepers So, to sum up... Don't use creosoted sleepers around children, food, or inside Don't sit on them, eat off them, or put them indoors! HANDLE with GLOVES

Agree with above, hence why I used new treated sleepers. The next batch I make will be clear Protim treated as I also have a treatment plant on site.

Looks spot on
I'd probably lost the 2 smaller benches, don't look good with no overhang and not sure they'd be needed either...

Thank you mate. Not really my skill as all I did was cost and design - my mill guys handled the tough stuff. They are usually only doing boring timber firrings or machining special moudings etc so I gave them the chance to do something a little different. No pictures as yet but last month I got them making planters from old decking etc - Made a few hundred in days as we are half the price of Badshot Lea Garden centre which is only 200m away! I enjoy doing something different during the working day than just paperwork & purchasing.

Used loads of old UK sleepers as lintels over the years, none have ever shown any tendency to weep creosote. Seems stupid importing used untreated oak sleepers from Germany when we have perfectly good ones here.... Mind last time I wanted some it was cheaper to get a length of green oak than a sleeper!

Very nice! I like the feet on the benches, they add a bit more detail than you would normally see.

I honestly expected this to be a thread about garden furniture with unexpected modifications, possibly increased speed. Nice use of the timber, but I am still a little disappointed.
