Wow! I only knew of autobianchi because of gran turismo. Lovely little car, with a white engine like that you'l easily be able to spot leaks. I want a roof like that on my golf after having one on my triumph but I'm not brave enough to do it myself.

It was surprisingly easy , but i mannaged to cock up the template three times , so you just have to really measure and check things 3 times. Your golf will fit a twingoroof. Easier to come by and it screws in.

that's quite cool! You should make a period-looking sunroof switch panel. The modern one jars a little inside such a little cutie.

Wow, that is a beautiful little car... Lovely!
You've done a great job with the roof there... I would fit the wind deflector but I'd paint it white so it blends into the roof a little better.
Superb, please do keep us updated!

That is a very impressive conversion. Many purists will swallow back bile, but hey... If they wanted it original, they should have paid for it.
I would be happy to smoke around in one of those.
Do you know what the conversion cost you in real terms, including the running around for bits and hopefully a beer for your dad.
PS. You could also show us your other cars, and I suspect your dad has something up his sleeve too? If he shares your passion and time.

The roof conversion was quite cheap. I paid 125 euro for the roof , front struts with discbrake assembly wich i am going to need for my front and rear diskbrake conversion, and some assorted bits and bobs of a rear ended 29000 kilometers cinquecento soleil. everything on the car was mint. Garaged all it's life before the crash. Shame for them but lucky for me.... so the roof was roughly about 50 euro and i bought a can of sicaflex to make a flexible joint between the panel and the roof. The roof is held in place with a zillion nuts wich are a balls ache to tighten up evenly , but thats just an afternoons work. No money involved. thats all i think. So the conversion was about 62,95 :-) I have some leftover fabric from the uphostery of the new front seats and i'd like to wrap the control panel with it so it will blend in more. I'd love to buy some alfa romeo 147 leather seats in cognac color to fit to the car , but they are a tat on the expensive side at the moment. My dad does not share my passion for cars. He sometimes like to ride with me in summer , but we always end up at a local pub after a mile and a half.

You obviously took some brave pills before cutting into that perfect roof on such a tidy car! Will follow with interest.

Very nice, thanks for sharing such a pretty little car with us. Personally I'm glad you didn't fit that ugly wind deflector, or does it help with sealing the front edge of the roof when closed? Perhaps a small piece if trim at the front edge if it does. A strip of acrylic or even metal inside the roof, hinged to pop-up outside the roof when open would be far neater than the Fiat item.

You obviously took some brave pills before cutting into that perfect roof on such a tidy car! Will follow with interest. yeah , but i end up with the car i actually want and use. I already love the sunroof , much bigger than the one on a standard fiat 500. My girls love it and i only drive the car on nice sunny days. Much more comfortable. Also for comfort i fitted the seats from a 1999 fiat 126 bis. There totally ajustable in all directions and much more comfortable in comparison to the standard 1962 seats wich slide forwards and backwards and brake your back ( and spirit ) after a 20 minute drive. So I undid the seatcover of the original car and tried to fit them on the new seat , but that failed terribly. So i gave it a thought. The upholstery is made of " playmobile leather " and the missus was at work so i conviscated the the tumble dryer and heated the covers up a little and lined the new chair with those seetrough bin liners , so it would slide better. and it worked a treat! So much more comfortable! i did a 1 hour drive and i loved it and it did not brake my back! here some picks. as standard. new seat new seatcovers et voila! doesn't look too bad from a distance...

Loving your Autobianchi, in the late 1980s I bought a van version of one of these, then bought & stripped a rusty Fiat 126 for all it's parts to update the brakes, etc. Unfortunately I gave it to someone to do some welding on it & that was the last I saw of it, apparently it got scrapped?

I had wondered about the "new" headrests on the seats. I hope the headrests are removable when you want to look a bit more original, they do look good though, great if they are more comfortable.

I really want to end up with a car that i really like and use. I love the shape but comfortwise she really sucks and coming to a standstill takes as long as it took you to get there in the first place. In the early days that wouldn't mind me but now i have a 4 year old daughter wich loves our cars and wants to ride them all the time , so safety first nowdays. And i want to tinker and not be scared to damage anything. Just enjoy as much as possible.

It has to be said that to come up with a cuter version of the Fiat 500 would be one hell of a challenge, but somehow Autobianchi managed it!

As we all say , long time no update!! After being made redundant at the end of 2015 everything came at a standstill and it took some serious hard work to get out of that curse word. We started a pub , and due to it becoming a fast succes , the time to tinker with cars is even less than before. Some ebay-ing and retro riding online at night , but haven't driven a classic in over 2 years. But Finally !! after eight years of hard work and countless hours in the garage and endless searchs for modelspecific parts , she is finally finished!! Complete bonestock with her 495cc engine and a staggering 80 kilometres an hour top speed!! Everything is detailed and painted underneath , the 126 seats are installed and the electric sunroof works a treat. Rebuild the engine again with new gaskets and a new exhaust due to long standing. Never took such a small car , so long to build. Still on the look out for several unobtainable model specific rubbers , but i have a lead now.... But today her maiden voyage !! off to the APK (mot) station. Some little niggles to adress. Light fuse has blown twice , throttle sticking on carpet < very scary !!! Seat will not slide further back but overall a WIN situation !! The breaking in of the engine has started!! Our laptop crashed , so still working to retrieve the pictures of the finishing stages , but i made some pictures today with beautiful weather!! Also a little sad , as i know i do not have anymore time on my hands and she really has to go. Makes me really sad. I really hope she finds a good home with somebody who can aprecciate the long hours spent on it. ItÅ› by far the most solid fiat derivate i've ever owned. Straight floors rock solid sills and window surrounds actually made of metal instead of filler and newspaper. Going to miss this baby. Far more special then the fiat 500 and original delivered in Holland with original papers from that era. Genuine 30000 Kilometers on the clock. Took me 15 years to find. curse word.......

Dikkehemaworst, would you happen to know if my old Autobianchi Quatroposti is still around?
It was red with the same color interior as yours.
Original NL license plates 07-05-FT.
