Hi, I need to find more places to rummage for the projects, I know of Browns yards in Hemel Hempstead, and since moving to Dunstable last year now use Dunstable car disposal in French's avenue, who are really nice to deal with.
However, there must be more of these walk around and rummage types around the area. I know about Bushey breakers near Watford, but in the past they have seemed more intent on being intimidating and over charging than being approachable.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Stu

www.burtoncardisposal.co.uk/Burton's is quite nice, you're allowed to walk around and take anything you want off the cars. Just bring a high vis and some tools and off you go. Is based in Cambridgeshire though so not sure if it's near you.

When I was In Berkhamsted, it was always worth a trip over to LC Huges in Bichester, an old rambling yard, dunno what its like now as I haven't lived that way for about 4 years, The last time I was up there the perimeter fence was made of pre war lorries, they were clearing the fence then so I would Imagine its long gone, www.lc-hughes.co.uk/another place to look is a breakers in Rush Green, near Knebworth, I think the car yard has been largely cleared of cars now, that was a stunning place, but they are still an active car breakers, I remember walking across roofs of 30s fords, and 3 pyramids of OLD cars that must have been 50ft high. It still breaks lorries, have a look on google Earth, the place is HUGE, as far as I am aware the Lorry yard has never been cleared since the 50s, (I could be wrong)

They had a big clear out of all the old stuff around huges a few years ago , its not quite so dangerous now with half buried old claor gas bottles etc .
I went about 8 months ago , they had some 205's mk3 golfs , loads of polos etc , but not much older that was not completely gone [ MGb , montego turbo , both rustied to nothing and covered in slime ]
The staff seems nicer than back in the 90s/early 2000s , i would talk to some big blonde bloke with a tasche who would give me a fair price , then some old cretin with a fag on in a a leather jacket would overrule him and ask the earth !

As above, rush green is an amazing yard, but the truck breakers left a bit of a bad taste when they wouldnt sell me the front springs i need for the tathauler, only an entire fooked ex pan am f250 for 750 quid, i didnt have the heart to tell him that's what mine cost initially!

So is rush green still a car breakers? All i can find on google is that they are commercial vehicle.
Thanks for the info on lc-hughes. I went there today and i got a few much needed dash blanks, a rear light etc nothing big was left but what i got was worth the trip.
If rush green is a car breakers i'll try them out next weekend.

Rush Green have changed loads, they're more up to date now. Whereas you used to walk in, ask for what you were looking for and he would point you in the direction, now you get to the office, ask for something and get told a blunt no, not in stock, haven't got one etc...can't even wander round now on a Saturday afternoon.
Well, thats the recent experiences ive had.

Another one to try is Hunts in Hemel, dosent keep old stock, but I know he has other places, Martin is OK, talk to him and ask if you can go for a wander, never refused me, its in Cupids Green, which is where Sky Fords is, if you stood outside Skys, with your back to them, its 50 mtrs to the left, down the side of the radio mast.

They are located near Aston Clinton and Wendover.

Skodarew - Whats the name of the one near aston Clinton. I googled and found one called Elliots. Or another DK Car disposals dead between Wendover and Aston Clinton.
Skylinedave - I have a 1990 Honda Civic 1.6i-VT but most of the bits I need are generic to any 1990 - 1991 Civic, preferably the hatch. Nice of you to offer to keep an eye out.
