Picked this up at the weekend, some of you might have seen it on eBay, I'm not so sure how long it had been on truth be told.
It's an 89 LS, 1.4 12 valve (I think) I really don't know squat about Sunny's, but it was local, keenly priced and I was in the market for something.
It has an astonishing 27,000 from new, and a fully stamped up service book from the initial first service. I was expecting some surprises at this price point, but what I found was a very clean body and a pretty immaculate interior. Took it for the standard "not driven a classic in a while" road test which included some notchy gear changes, some extra steering effort and a bit of clutch mastery. Comfy, quiet and slow. Kicked some tyres, shone my torch in various places and handed over some money. The sills are almost beyond belief, in fact the whole underside is beyond belief. Arches, not a jot of rot. There is only one patch I've found near the aerial mount, and a small section in the cavity where the top of the drivers door sits.
Minor realisations and annoyances include;
The stereo worked, but no sound. Turns out because the speakers have been either half inched or not put back in for some reason. Not sure where I'll source these.
Two regulators have gone on the power windows. Again, not sure where I'll find these or if they are fixable.
Fuel and temperature gauges are intermittent which upon a bit of investigation sounds like the voltage regulator behind the clocks. Going to clean the contacts and see if that sorts it, as they are part time at the moment.
Interior carpets were SOAKED. Not sure if they have cleaned it with the dodgy windows ajar and not realised. The rears are also wet in the footwells, but no where else. So I'm assuming it's not the matrix. Seals look okay on the doors, not lifted the carpet yet but hoping there's no horror lurking.
Nothing requiring immediate attention, it is pretty pleasant to pootle about in. Had a long haired Polish chap compliment me on it and ask if it was for sale last night, snuck up on me in a very 'Mr Deeds' butler' style as I was sticking some air in the tyres. Nearly had a heart attack.
Plans;
Drive
Roof rack?
Paint the steels?
Sorry for advert picture. Garage is dark.
