What pump is it? if it has the 4 wire pump just change the stop solenoid to a single wire unit and give it an IGN live.

The solenoid is the type that hidden behind a chunk of steel from what I can see, they are the only wires that go to the injection pump. I can get around the starter side of things easily from the looks of things.

This ^ Remove the metal cover / bracket and by-pass will become obvious.Only need a feed to solenoid for it to work, 'M' reg transit would not have had the same PATS system or wiring connections as your 'W' reg fuel pump... Does your engine loom have a connection for the new engines fuel pump to plug into ? I assume you still have a PATS system fitted to get a fault code or are you using the LED for a 'flash' code ?

Hmm well this is curious, as the newer injection pump connection is identical to the old one (from memory of a couple of hours ago) i have traced all the wires and they connect the same way on the old and new engine looms to the body loom. Both pumps have the same connections and wire colours from the pump to the loom connector. It had crossed my mind to try just swapping the engine looms to see if that works, as removing that shield looks a complete balls ache now its sat in the engine bay. Yeah it has the PATS system from the M reg (was told that this was the van from the folk who did original engine swap). I got the code from the LED flash doofus. Ill have a look at both engines tomorrow to formulate a plan of attack to that shield removal. Thanks for the advise so far guys, i do love a challenge

Is it the lucas or bosch pump. Bosch is about as simple as it gets, a lucas epic would probably be the reason its not still in the transit....

The fuel pumps with 3 wires into a oval block connector, have a RIM (remote immobiliser module) on the pump,
PATS system needs to see chip in key,PATS module and fuel pump match as a set, Either you need to re-code system with 'new' pump, swap your old pump back on,or by-pass.
M reg transit was first year of PATS,had a normal stop solenoid with a anti-theft cover bolted over connector,so only one wire to solenoid. Had a red 'Master' key,
PATS changed around '97 I believe to the system you seem to have,RIM on pump and '2 key' (no master) system.... The LED moved from roof lining to dashboard,(not really important to you in this case)

its defo gunna be a bypass as thats all a load of not needed on a 50s chevy ! A secret switch is all it needs for security as it lives in a lock up and only comes out for weekends away when the owner sleeps in it. Guys, once again, thanks for this, I'm a rover/landrover/GM person as a rule, i have no interest in fords, unless its a big v8 diesel
