I was looking through some old photos earlier and ended up looking at my photos from the 2006 Uxbridge Auto Show. 2006 by all accounts wasn't that long ago (until you realise it was 9 years ago anyway!) yet how times have changed. I took a picture of this Estelle 120 L5 which was being sold for £150. He also had a 24,000 mile Estelle 120 requiring some welding for £45 and a Wartburg estate for £175! As it is now, you're lucky to grab an Estelle for less than £1,000 - oh how I wish I'd had the foresight to grab it whilst I could! All fairly common and cheap 9 years ago
The big one, a Jensen Interceptor. £20k then, £40k and up for anything decent right now.
Oh, and Ford Mustangs. Know a chap bought a mint Cali import for around £10k around 2000, an exceptional fastback went for £44k last Saturday and £25k is easily achievable for good cars.

It's been a funny few years indeed! In 2007 I bought a mint 60k from new 964 carrera with some rs bits on it for £11,500, similar car now would cost 25k+!!! Wish I had kept it! Yet in the same year someone bought my Mercedes CLS new for £46,000 it's just turned 50k miles and I've paid £11,000 from main dealer! Makes ya think.......

Around 2000 i bought a solid 70 Mach1 rolling shell (with all the bits) for £1500, spent three years building it and sold it for 8K It was a genuine Mach1 with rare Shaker hood, would be worth around 25K now

In 2005 I sold a mk1 Fiesta with uprated suspension, heavily breathed on 1700 crossflow and 5 speed box for £400 A couple of years prior to that I sold a Viva E coupe for £175. Both due to rust and no storage - gutted

In 2005 I sold a mk1 Fiesta with uprated suspension, heavily breathed on 1700 crossflow and 5 speed box in 2003 for £400 A couple of years prior to that I sold a Viva E coupe for £175. Both due to rust and no storage - gutted I don't understand, was it 2005 or 2003? You put both for the same car Me too? Maybe the Fiesta was in 2003 and the engine and box were sold in 2005?

If you want to be depressed, i was 12 at the time. I bought my first Mini that year for £123. You'd be lucky to get the same car now needing all that work for less than £1400!

I bought my S reg 105S with 12 months MOT and just 4 years old from a local dealer who had taken it in P/X - for £199 This is interesting - a historic inflation calculator so you can see what you paid years ago is worth today. www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.htmlFor example the S1 E Type I turned down from a neighbour in 1976 for £500 sound cheap today but for comparison that works out at £3666 and is a lot of money (I was 19 and had just bought a brand new semi bungalow for £7500 !)

In 2001 i bought an immaculate, and i mean A1 one-owner 1990 Ford Escort XR3i. The spare wheel had never seen a hub, the steering wheel rim was still Matt.
The car was as passe as they get at that time. I paid 325 quid for it with full service history. The same car would be worth ten times that now.

In around 2005, my dad claimed a dumped 86 Golf GL, it had lots of optional extras, and got the owner to swap the V5 over to save him scrap charges. It was literally parked with a torn tyre at the side of the road, drivers door unlocked and key behind the visor. Dodgy stuff. It turned out to be rust free, needing the brakes overhauling and new tyres, he gave it away as spares a year later due to to many projects! I would have been 13 then.
He also sold a solid, early Mk2 Metro turbo for £250 in 2004. The early Mk1 we have which is very rusty was advertised at the same time for the same price, people have recently offered £750.
And an extremely rusty type 3 fastback was sold a few months ago, £400 when not alot of it can be saved. Found the receipt from 1990 paying £25 for it, it was stood all that time.
I'd buy myself a nice Mk1 Scirroco given the choice if i could go back.

About 10 years ago I told my dad that the Ferrari 246 or Gordon Keeble would be good investments (both around £25,000 at the time). He decided to try the stock market instead. Result.....
shares - gone up and down but never really gained much cars - prices have shot through the roof.

When I first passed in 2004 I had a 205 1.6 GTI, totally original with 60ish thousand miles in great condition that I paid £600 for, and sold it for about the same 4 months later due to struggling to pay the insurance. That car would be at least £2500 now.

I know it's going further back a bit but around 1990 i was offered a solid running/driving 72 Datsun 240Z, Yellow with slot mags for 1K, body shop owning mate was selling it, he had rebuilt the body, new floors, rear 1/4's, door skins, wing repairs etc, etc, body was all solid/straight and just needed paint and assembly, cars owner had gone to jail for a long time and told my mate to sell it for the cost of labour and parts. I knocked it back as i was living with my parents and had just bought a Mini
