Classic car show starting on Channel 5

i found the show very good.....if you watched just the main features and fast forwarded through the cheesy sofa chats. The CGI was daft and the studio bits stilted/awkward. What i disliked the most was Willson's arrogance towards "lesser" classic cars such as the TR7. He did it in the show and quite openly on social media straight after the programme on friday night...

I still haven't watched this but I agree with the comment on the previous page that we really lack a decent car show now. I haven't bothered watching Top Gear for a few years now. I decided to give the Christmas special a go and was predictably disappointed by it. The only redeeming thing was that they managed to go for the entire Christmas special without mentioning the F*C*ING Bugatti Veyron which they have previously been so fixated on that they couldn't do an episode or a magazine issue without some reference to it.

Does anyone here watch Roadkill on Youtube? It's the best thing I've seen in a while because it's just good old fashioned down to earth messing around with cars, and it's made on a slim budget by the editor of Hot Rod magazine and his hot rod building friend. It's good stuff and nothing like American Hot Rod and all those other US shows.. It's not always amazing, but it's fairly consistently enjoyable (if you ignore the 'best bits' episode they did just before Christmas which was a total waste of time).

Sadly I think Roadkill's best days are possibly behind it now. One of the two presenters has moved to a different State and I believe they have also succumbed to a big sponsorship deal which will send it the same way as all the other American car programs... painfully scripted set pieces between promotional slots for the sponsor's dubious wares. But hopefully not.

I caught the end of the last episode by accident and I must say it was dramatically better! I may even watch it again now!

I think it's OK, to be fair. Quentin seems to have got some stronger haemorrhoid ointment and thus is writhing around less and he also seems a bit less...well, rapey... than before. And to be honest, and at the risk of sounding puerile, Jodie Kidd and a GT40 (even a replica) will keep my attention focused for quite some time

I have to say this:-

There is a lot of Quentin bashing going on here (for frankly quite valid reasons), but I smoked a fag with him at a thing once and he is a really decent guy actually. I got on with him really well - perhaps because I'm a used car salesman and I'm actually as much of a curse word as him - but still it had to be said. Rapey or not, at least he wasn't too much of a "celeb" to smoke a fag with a petrolhead and talk about s**t old cars.

I think that's the point EmDee, very many of us really do think Quentin is a pretty decent kind of bloke who does talk the good stuff with normal people.  The purpose of some of the criticism is to point out that the format of this show isn't doing him or the majority of "ordinary" classic car petrolheads any favours.

We don't want and don't need the celebrity and ego culture bringing into our playground.  In the main they take all and give nothing, moving on after they've had their fun and leaving behind yet another tarnished area.

What worries me is the kind of format "celebrities will drop in from time to time" (how jolly decent of them to come and light up our impoverished lives) is exactly the format spelled out on the production company's web site.

If we're to keep this hobby alive we need more of the hands-on stuff ala Wheeler Dealers type shows to which we can steer newcomers and say "Watch and learn, most of this stuff isn't beyond normal people".  Indeed some of us can even benefit from seeing how cars that are different from the ones we own are refurbished.
