Used To see one of those in an old guys front garden close to the Walsall Football Club a few years ago. Not there now I don't think. Always looked a cool bit of kit Although I always fancied digging a big pit and modding a four post lift to do this

The original story's from the Daily Mail, hardly a bastion of informative journalism.
The headline should read 'Turntables fitted to Mail readers' driveways as they need to be lead in the right direction.'
Two words for this, hogwash and poppycock!

I think it states in the Highway code it is an offence to reverse onto a major road, or onto a designated road, that has been about for as long as I have been driving, so its not anything new,

I can kinda see their point. I lived next to the outer ring road in Leeds, a busy but fast moving (40mph) single carriageway road. Luckily there is a extended verge between the house and the drive to turn round. You can still be waiting upto 10 minutes to get out between 7.30-9am. Absolutely no chance of reversing out of without forcing the car out into a gap that's much too small and hoping the person coming notices and slams on the brakes.

Daily Mail - say no more. Wouldn't mind one for the fun factor though.

Thats what was said when I was knocked off my motorbike, the lady reversing onto a main road was convicted of dangerous driving.

Entirely plausible, however the act of reversing onto a main road from a driveway or side road ISN'T an offence. Similarly undertaking ISN'T an offence, but do it in a dangerous manner or contribute to an accident and you are likely to find yourself liable to prosecution.

I don't need one, but I want one. I'd up the speed though, make the postman's life a bit trickier.

shampooefficient you just gave me an idea for one with a variable speed control slow when doing the car, but fast for canvisors and unwanted religious or political persons. (make sure the bins have been moved or it will be you who is cleaning them up!)
