Next time you have it in the air, check the driveshafts. I had a 1999 GT... ..and it eventually died from shearing a shaft clean in half. Its apparently a known fault for them to catch corrosion where the shaft tapers into the rubber balance thing or whatever it is. If the shear it can shag the earings in the diff... one to be aware of!

Overdrive, I'm aware of the driveshaft issues. I'm probably the only long term member on NPOC who hasn't had one snap. They are a weak point on these due to a balance weight which Nissan added, which actually collects water and corrodes (I think that'd right anyway) *edit, just re-read your post and that's what you had already said*. I remember your red GT. It was in the owners club for a while, and owned by a lad on Teesside for a bit iirc.

Could well have been mate, I may have been on there at one point too, but that was easily 6-7 years ago. Many many cars have passed since them...

Love this, like you say in your first post, it's not exactly retro yet but in not a lot of time, they'll be thin on the ground, especially the more unusual models like this. The colour is lovely btw.
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for these, when I was about 8 or 9 I remember the local police where I lived had an unmarked Primera SRi in an electric blue colour alongside a Vento VR6. I still remember seeing them flying down the Queenstown road together on a shout, the Vento was leading with the Primera behind, it was a pretty awesome sight. This would've been around 1995/96. Back then the Primera was a very unusual choice for the police especially the Met who were still using Metro's and Sierra's at the time if I remember rightly.
Still, any sporty version of a mainstream family saloon is worth saving in my opinion. Just think of all the Belmont SRi's, Peugeot 405 Mi16's and Rover 420 GSi turbo's that have been scrapped, joyridden and nicked over the years, there's just none left now.
Cherish it and one day, it'll be a truly desirable example of a retro sports saloon.

I've never been a Japanese car fan, so not commented on many on here but........... I really like your primera I've been into older cars for many years, but I'm more into 90s stuff now, and that car ticks all the right boxes for me, and the story to go with it is a nice one, I'm going to to bookmark this and want to see more updates, I drive old c classes as dailys but certainly would consider one of these, shock horror I like a Japanesecar!!! I like it

I remember making special edition seats for the motors that were going to be police cars. As well as having two lumbar adjust levers (instead of just the usual one on the drivers seat), they also had two locking headrest plugs in each front seat rather than the usual one locker and one non-locker...obviously to stop the bad boys in the back seats taking the headrests out easily to whack over the drivers head!! Thanks for the nice comments. It will be cherished for sure. To be honest, I hardly see any of these P11's around now. Maybe one a week. So I guess they are pretty rare now.

Your wheels look mega now.
I'm back driving my GT LE now after a brief wobble into Rover 75 helmsmanship. Its a great car, I love it. Mine has suffered an bit of salt damage over the winter though and its got a clicky CV joint that needs attention. must check the driveshafts too!!!! The last thing I want is one of those bloody things snapping.

Ah, so you used to work for my employer.. Johnson Controls/ Automotive.. I visit the Sunderland plant a couple of times a month and keep meaning to get some shots of the retro bluebird and sunny models that are on the walls upstairs in the offices.
I visit most of the UK seat plants, including the new one at Speke. Nice Primera, I had a Pulsar GTIr in the early noughties, great cars and very underestimated.

Indeed. I worked on the Primera (EQ) front seat line at Johnson Controls (previously Ikeda Hoover) between 1997 and 2004 inclusive.

Thats the best colour for these, ive had three of them, great handling straight out of the box, had a P10 2.0SRi tuned to 156bhp(went very well and never went wrong), then a P11 GT (Again never went wrong) and finally a 1.6lx.

I bought one of these recently which might end up replacing the mondeo. It looks more fun anyway. Mine's got the enkei wheels on it and all black leather interior with a momo knob. It's a saloon in silver so it might be a GTLE? I'll bring it home tonight and might try and get some pictures. I'll start a thread on it if I decide to keep it.

From your list, definately a GT LE I would say. The V5 might not say it though, it might just say GT. The DVLA sometimes added the LE to the log books, sometimes they didn't. Slapdash? DVLA? Never..... Like mine, yours will be one of only 100 GTLE saloons made. Get some pics posted.

One of the lads from the NPOC was breaking his white GT, and I bought some parts from him. Just cosmetic stuff really. Clear outer rear corners, clear side repeaters, stainless kick plates, wind deflectors and mud flaps. The rear corners, kick plates and mud flaps are genuine Nissan parts, which fits in with my plan to get it looking as good as I can, but not straying far from factory. I fitted the kick plates, wind deflectors and clear side repeaters yesterday... Replaced the dull amber rear corners today with the clear ones. One done... Both done... Don't worry, I haven't forgotten all the work I still have to do under the car. I've had shingles, which is only dying off now. I'll crack on with it when I get some time, and I'm able to get it up on a lift or some ramps.
