Well since I've just returned from a brief interlude in the Czech Republic I thought it would be rude not to share with you lot some of my spots and retro car related snaps that I took whilst I was there. There's nothing particularly exciting to be quite honest (at least not if you're normal), but if you're a bit special in the head and find broken rusty old cars interesting then you might find something relevant to your interests in here.
After reading Colonelk 's superduper Japan threads and HoTWire 's epic SEMA report I thought "Well that's my pathetic holiday ruined", but then if I didn't bother I'd have nowhere to post any of the curse word phone pictures that none of my family are interested in seeing - and I need to get them out of my system (take note HARDCORE). So...
What I done on my holidays by Martin age 35 5/6ths
Disclaimer: I'll start off by saying that the vast majority of cars in the Czech Republic are just like ours. Brand new, boring modern stuff - the main difference being that around half are Skodas (of course). So my intention is not to paint a picture of a country 20 years behind the rest of Europe chock full of lovely old chod. It's not actually like that. They have computers and everything. In fact, on that note here is a picture of our rental car - which I secretly quite liked.
See? Brand new. Not half as cool after I'd seen HoTWire's bloody Challenger, but still respectable by my frankly pathetic standards.
So although most of the stuff on the roads is new, whilst we were there we stayed in a small farming town south east of Brno, so I got to see a ton of cool old chod floating about that you won't find in Prague or a bigger town/city.
This thread is mostly a dumping ground for my dodgy phone snaps of those rubbish old cars, but I know that on here we like modified stuff so I'm going to include some other bits n' pieces to try and keep it interesting. In fact I'll start with some cool modified cars I saw in some of the magazines I bought while I was there, move on to the spotted stuff and then right at the end I'll include a superwicked reward* for those of you hardcore enough to have made it the whole way through ( I imagine we've lost most of the lifestylers and scene bumders already - there are no banded steels or welded diffs in this thread).
*Please note that when I said reward, I actually meant more pics of old Czech cars. Of course.
So to begin with, here are some of those cool cars that appeared in the magazines I bought while I was there. Proof that the Czech retro car scene is alive and kicking.
^ Yes, that's right kids, it's an "Autosport and Tuning" Skoda special edition - complete with highly modified cover slapper...
Aww yeah. Some proper class in there. Shame I have to get the words translated by the ever-suffering and patient Lady Dee.
So moving swiftly on to some of the cars I spotted whilst out there, not all of these pictures are to be considered anything special, not many are modified and I took quite a few snaps just to give a picture of the general automotive atmosphere when I got there. After a while of staying in the smaller towns I stopped snapping interesting stuff just because there was so much of it. 205s, 309s and 405s everywhere, old skodas are two a penny, from felicias and favorits to 120s, 110s, 130s etc etc. *sigh* I love it there.
A rather tidy Favorit.
And what's that in the background?
Glad you asked. It's a this:
Amazing. There were a metric fap-ton of amazing old lorries over there. I'm not really a lorry guy, but even I could appreciate some of those things. More lorries later actually.
Whilst we're on yellow trucks, check out this TOTAL HONEY...
^ Notice the ever-patient Lady-Dee and Mini-Dee there wondering what the hell is wrong with Dad and why he's taking pictures of a knackered old Dacia pickup.
Saw lots of great stuff we didn't get here actually.
Like this Fiat Palio next to a pair of Favori
and this thing
Wait whut?
DA FAQ WAS DAT?
Answers on a postcard please.
More random tat:
WARTY! For her pleasure.
Also, I know this is a bit of a cardinal sin here on RR, but there were loads of these amazing mopeds and bikes everywhere so I'll include this one which I liked:
CONGRATULATIONS
You've made it further than any sane human being should have. Now that you've waded through that little lot, I will disclose to you my reward for your err patience? Boredom? Disease?
TAT? Raaah!
On the Monday after a crazy weekend of eating, drinking and err yeah drinking (my 5 month old daughter was christened on the Sunday), I had a little spare time between hangovers. My soon to be father in law and I were looking at oxidised old chod on the internet that I could bribe him to fix up and then I'd drive it back andkeep err sell on for a profit, when I mentioned Tatras.
Tatra? You like the Tatra?
Erm, yeah. I love them, what's not to like?
He opened a new browser window and started index-finger hunting-and-pecking. After having a quick chat with his missus (presumably requesting clearance) he came back and said "We go?"
I had to get the Missus to translate a bit for me, but it transpired THE Tatra Museum was 20km away and we were going.
Of course being a total geek I forced him to stop half way there so I could take these awful pics of this scrapyard:
Check out the Octavia!
It's a disease. Shut up.
Anyway, the museum. There's an album here with all of the pics. I've not posted all of it in here because there are 177 pictures and there's a lot of vintage stuff that most folks on here probably won't care for.
But here are some of my favourite ones.
TATRA PREZIDENT
^ This thing was epic.
Oh yeah, for those of you who don't know much about Tatras, they mostly have air cooled rear mounted V8s.
cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_Prezident
^ yes, that is a freaking snowmobile.
And that is a train
^ LOADS of engines were on display, tons of silly 15 litre v12 diesels and that sort of business. Not posted many here, but lots more in the album.
And lots of TRUCKS
Proper ones
^ Hard to see the scale there, but that one was bigger than my house.
And then there was the highlight of my stay.
The Tatra Ecorra Sport V8
I like this car so much, I started a thread about it in April 2013. I honestly didn't think there'd be one here. But there was.
When I wrote the thread, it was hard to find pics of this car, so I took quite a few.
There are more in the album but that'll do me for now, that was a monster post - I'm spent!
