I hope someone can help.
I'm buying some bits from a guy in Germany, and the payment method he takes is 'Uberweisung', which I gather is basically a bank transfer.
How do I do it from my UK (Lloyds TSB) bank account? Is it the same as a UK-UK transfer?

curse word nightmare - I do this in business & it takes all sorts of hassle & effort to set up.
You need His; account Number bank address Swift BIC code IBAN Number
its actually the dickensian British Banking system that causes all the hassle.
Just post some bloody Euro Notes inside a card & insure it for loss with royal mail.

Thats what I was afraid of, don't know why they don't deal with PayPal. Thanks. They don't use pay pal cos their banking system is free to transfer funds Free for the reciever and free for the sender On top of that it's rocket ship fast Why would they want to get fuged by paypal feesCash in envolope insured via royal mail is cheaper than the cost of a bank transfer One day the banks here are gonna wake up - till then I'm seriously considering an international bank account!!

yes, i have received a lot of envelops with money from the UK; worst comes on top; as there was a lot of fraud done with british bank transfers/accounts, it sometimes takes 4 weeks to clear the money into the account...

do you want the receiver to have your bank details?
send euros (free exchange at the post office) - it will be safer all round - send by international 'signed for' post

Definately send cash, unless it's a large amount. I used LTSB for a transfer when I needed a new drivers door from Germany, it cost an absolute fortune.

Whenever I have bought anything from Germay ive done the above and sent euros wrapped in silver foil (so it cant be seen via x-ray) and sent it fully insured.
Transfers to Germany are an expensive nightmare!

indeed anytime you write a cheque you provide your branch address, sort code, account number and a sample signature. Giving someone the same details so they can pay into your account is no different, and is actually a bit more secure as you don't sign anything. Banks are supposed to have security in place to stop this kind of thing going wrong...

:)I recently transferred roughly £4000 from the S.O.C.G.B. account to a German bank and it was all very straightforward. IIRC it cost about £20.

Yup, transfers the German banks cost a few quid. I had to do it a while back, annoyingly it was only a payment of £35 but it still cpost me £15 for the transfer.
Someone told me Paypal is actually illegal under german finance laws, only banks are allowed to handle payments or something.

^^^what he said - apparently - to receive a payment for goods or anything over there you must be registered as a business ( the g/friends father informed me ). You'll have Herr Tax-Fuhrer on your back sharpish....... IBAN makes it unique so no worries Then you write the letter to the bank demanding return of the bank charges that are exorbitant over the last Xyrs - totalling 0000's. They will pay all of these back instead of face a court action and have to justify the charges....... <--this is getting more popular with Joe Bloggs on the street as time goes on. ;D

If we'd have joined the Euro it would have been no problem!!
Anyway, I received the wheels for my Audi from Germany this morning. Ueberweisung took 3 days, cost £21 but I got a very competative exchange rate, much better than in the Post Office.
Wheels took 5 days to post and cost just 80 Euros on a pallet.
I wouldn't send £300 in an envelope, but thats just me. Claiming through the insurance would be a lengthy process.
By the way, if you ask your German friends to send stuff - get them to use Hermes Lieferung. I was very impressed.

Well said tarka! Come on Gordon Brown lets get on that euro train. These boys at Honda in Swindon are well keen on it. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6688065.stmIt would certainly aid international tat-buying and what is more important than that?

auctionchex.com/Used these guys to buy my bonnet bra off eBay.de and works out a damn site cheaper than a bank transfer. I paid them via Paypal, cost me a couple of quid extra then they sent him an email saying that I paid them and they would deposit the cash into his account, which they did. This is the best way I have found to buy off eBay.de from sellers that only accept a bank transfer.

If we'd have joined the Euro it would have been no problem!! There would still be the transfer cost whatever currency used. I I wouldn't send £300 in an envelope, but thats just me. Claiming through the insurance would be a lengthy process. With you on that.
