Hi,
New member here, showing off my latest acquisition. Purchased last week after a slightly drunken episode on ebay, followed by a 400 mile round trip in hurricane force wind and rain (In my K10 Micra) to collect it......unseen, in the dark.
The next morning consisted of coming to the slow realisation that I had purchased a wonderful, rusty lump of early 90's Austin-Rover miserableness. A thorough examination revealed the following faults:
1. Rusty rear arches and sills, with catastrophically bad repairs featuring hammerite and filler.
2. Rusty boot lid bottom corner, carefully and lovingly repaired by expanding builders foam.
3. Gutless, laggy, smoky diesel engine. (Perkins Prima).....as lovingly advertised by the sticker on the rear window.
4. Flobbery gear change (new bushes should sort, I believe its a VW box?)
5. Front brake disks that looked like a ploughed field.
6. Rusted to *curse word* scuttle panel
7. Functioning front wipers that were promptly broken by my "friend" assisting in closing the bonnet. (Interestingly it was found that removing the wipers was a pain with the bonnet open, and closed.......half open holding it with your shoulder whilst swearing was found to be the best course of action).
8. A headlining that hangs like a wizards sleeve and drops bits on you as you drive along.
9. A horrific rumbling crunching sound as you pull away and under hard acceleration (clutch and release bearing methinks)
10. A power steering pump that whines like a toddler in a sweet shop. (sounds like a supercharger actually, might leave it).
11. Various algal/lichen growths.
12. Front wheel held on with 3 nuts (I drove it home at 80 down the M4......really wish I hadn't now).

So, the plan of action (in no real order):
Sort front brakes (disks and pads ordered), waxoyl anything that hasnt already rusted (half a small tin should do it), new clutch kit, new headlining, replace gear linkages, a damn good T-cut and polish, weld in new rear arches and attack the sills (arch repair panels ordered), repair the boot......not sure how best to do this yet. Then, a full engine service, check of boost pressure, rebuild the injectors and possibly the pump, get it on some decent wheels (I'm thinking MG maestro alloys or banded steelies), and then finally......of course, SLAM IT!
I will be open to suggestions of styling mods, technical mods along the way. A respray may be in order sometime down the line, and the headlining material has yet to be chosen
Progress will probably be slow until the Christmas period, as the demands of Uni currently call. I'm heading to a field in shropshire next saturday to attack another Montego with a spanner and hammer to try and gleam as many useful parts as possible, will take photos of that.
If anyone has any Montego parts as well, get in touch.....ill probably need them, its disintegrating as I write this!

P.S. This is the ONLY Montego DSL left on the road
