This has probably been done to death, or similar threads have come and gone but, what the hell. Ive said before that, IMHO, the ideal retro ride is, almost certainly pre 80s, lowered a bit, souped up a bit and as clean as a nuns conscience. Well, the following couple of pics are pretty much what floats my boat and gets the old juices flowing. On the face of it, how simple are the details on these cars? How difficult would it be to transfer some of the ideas onto other unassuming cars? I'm not pro brit or owt, I'm not fussed what car is given the makeover, a 70s J mobile will benefit as equally as a Marina, right? Enjoy and, if possible, keep the thread going!!

Chrysler 300's are now just within your budget. Get a scruffy one (hemi version ?) cheap and "arden". What about a V8 S Type Jag ?

Triumph 2000/2500 either MK 1 or 2 but I'd go for a MKII. Granada's as in the Sweeny!

I reckon they would be the very few of the moderns that would really work well. Their shape screams 60s, I I think they could look brilliant, blimey, an S type can be had for under a £1000, that's shonky Mondeo money.

You're thinking of the X-Type, surprisingskoda. Not a trace of Mondeo in S-Type, which shared its chassis with Lincoln LS.

Funny, that was the first car I thought of when I clicked the thread. Here's probably the hardest car I've been fortunate enough to see this year, especially when it was spitting fire.

OP pics are definitely my kind of thing these days. I've wanted a gasser for ages but more recently I've decided that Brit 60's track stormers is where I really want to be. I've just purchased a Humber Super Snipe ex-race saloon. Stripped, lowered, a bit of gut wrenching and no frills. That said, I looked for an age for a Triumph Vitesse 2.0 saloon and couldn't find one. A company called Quiller Triumph have a Triumph Herald with a TR6 2.5 straight 6 in it, and it's been converted into a little ute. Granted it looks a bit like a clown's car in blue with a white stripe, but in black with grey... it would have looked great. They calim it's for sale, but even when I had the money they didn;t seem even slightly interested in selling, so I reckon they just advertise it for sale to advertise their business. Phoned them four times about that Herald. First time they said 'car is out on loan'. Second time I said 'if I pay you the asking price up front and then some more cash for petrol and th etrain fair home, would you deliver the car (three miles) into London to my office? and they said 'nah'. Third time, I said I'd like to go and collect the car and pay cash for it, but I wanted to know what was behind the massive piece of chequer plate on the firewall and they said 'dunno, haven't noticed that. We'd have to have a look and see'. Which is an odd answer when you consider the ad for the car states they've owned and cherished the car since they first converted it 16 years ago. I asked them when they could have a look and see what was behind it and they said 'dunno, the car isn't here at the moment'. After that, I decided that they can't be serious about selling it. Who would be that unhelpful if they really wanted to sell?
