Been a while since ive posted on here i sold my mk3 after retro rides and straight away i wanted something different to replace it. Originally i was looking for a b2200 pickup but ended up choosing the jaguar xj. A quick search on ebay found this daimler xj6 only 5mins away. Straight away fell in love with it and went and had a look. I was greeted by a straight car but faded roof bonnet and boot only major rust is around the windscreen but a very solid car underneath. It was crazy how much electrics it has everything mirrors sunroof windows ariel and it all works. Straight away i knew i wanted it and £1500 later i was driving it home and what a barge feels like I'm driving a sofa. A few hours later after cruising with a couple mates decided to get the grinder out and get it sitting closer to floor. Thats better but still wanted it lower so the following weekend got the tyres swapped to a 50 profile which brought it alot closer to the floor. Went out for a test drive which didnt last long as the exhaust got broken. Fixed it then went back out to fill up as was going to a meet in dorchester. Pulled into the road i live in and bang got out and had a look. All i see is dripping oil. Thats sump done in then. Put it in the garage a forgot about it. I was thinking what to do with then i thought a diesel conversion would be cool so started to look into whats been done. Found a xjs which was running a bmw diesel. Have now decided on either a 2.5 tds engine or a m57 diesel out a late 90s 530d. Got the old engine out to fund a donor car Now thats as far as ive got till i find the right donor car. Did make it to one meet though where it came second best British. Will try to keep this updated as i progress with it. Cheers

Loving the look and the plans for a derv conversion. The 5 put Mercedes-Benz engine isn't a bad lump.

Nice project !
I ran a series 3 which had a 2.5ltr Nissan Patrol engine conversion by a company in Boston, Lincs. The looks I used to get at petrol stations filling an old Jag with diesel was amusing and one even turned the pump off on me as they thought I was putting the wrong fuel in. The major downside, apart from the very un-Jag like noise was mine wasn't a TD , so was pretty gutless, and when the diesel pump seized it cost almost as much as the car was worth to fix !
All the best with yours, and it's always good to be different.

Shame the volvo d5 couldn't line up as it's cheap to buy and bulletproof. It would drag that jag around really well. Car looks great mate

+1 for a Daimler Benz. I've thought before, why is Daimler a British car co (possibly the first?) yet Daimler Benz is obviously German. So I've just looked it up on Wikipedia. interesting stuff going back to the infancy of the motorcar...

Will be getting a straight through exhaust The 525 e34 has a front mounted oil pickup and e36 has a rear oil pick so its longer After stripping the 5 series of everything including the loom i swapped the sump to a e36 sump to gain clearance of the sump frame. I then chopped the old engine brackets out and drilled two holes in the subframe for the bmw engine. Then came the test fit and it cleared everything well. i was planning on using the standard bmw mounts but the engine sat a bit to high so a quick look on ebay i bought some land rover v8 mounts that were 30mm shorter. Swapped them over today and it sits perfect now. Next mount i need to sort is gearbox will do that next weekend. Had a quick test fit as i wanted to use as much of the bmw parts as possible. The radiator intercooler and oil cooler all fit. Also picked up a manual pedalbox which needs rebuilding

That BMW TDS lump is such a smooth lump and sounds sweet when revved. They do seem a little laggy, but it's a pretty torquey engine anyway. Following this thread with great interest.

does that mean you got a e34 oil pickup going spare? I'm in need of one. might have the sump too if the price is right. let me know!
that does look as though its going to work out a pretty nice conversion though. a few choice mods and youll be knocking on 200hp/300ft/lbs.
you thought about your diff ratio though? youre gunna have to go pretty nuts to get it right, the beemers are 2.64:1, and thats with a 205/60R15 tyre. with low pros youre gunna need something the wrong side of 2.5:1 to get close to original gearing! i think you can get a 2.7:1 for the jag diffs, which is about as good as youre gunna get i think.

Have been slowly progressing with this managed to find another sump and oil pickup off of dez. Ideal situation he needed my old sump and bits and i needed his so done a straight swap. Got the engine in for the last time and made up a gearbox mount. Also made up the radiator brackets and started placeing a few bits in to see how things look. Plan on swapping the pedal box tomorrow
