Maestro was only available as a four door, so not a contender here. EDIT: Not true... Maestro Turbo was two door. Its back in the running, but still looks better as a two door than a four door.

No it wasn't, that's a photoshop. All Maestros were 5-door. I have a 5-door ZX, I think it's quite cool: Would it look better as a three-door? Erm... Probably, yes. But I still think it's pretty cool. It's mostly irrelevant really, isn't it. The theory is that the sporty models use a 3-door shell because it's stiffer, but let's face it, your car is not a racecar, you're never going to be driving it to such a limit on the road that shell stiffness makes much of a difference. I guess now it's as much a case of "Ha ha, I have a 3-door because I'm young and free and don't have to cart kids around". But on the other hand, a 5-door says "Ha ha, I have a 5-door because my gentleman's veg works"... Swings and roundabouts really.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

sierras are an odd one though. i think they all look rubbish irrespective of amount of doors, except saphs, which only came as 4 doors (over here anyway)

Austin Rover did build a 3dr Maestro shell, i don't think it was ever fitted-up though. I saw it in the flesh in bare steel. It actually looked like the Turbo above, but not as awkward. The gap between the door skin and rear quarter panel was straighter at the top.
The Maestro used the same doors as the Montego, with different trim to change the appearance, so a 3dr Maestro would've made a 2dr Montego easier to fabricate.
The Maestro is still built today, in China, with the Montego front end on it. Can't help thinking a Montego with a Maestro front end would've looked better proportioned, but that's another story.

i prefer a 5 door to be honest.... i have only ever had one 3 door and no one got in the back... My favorite thing about more doors is not having to reach back as far for the seatbelt! My car is a 3dr but the pillars are unusual in that they rake forward, and the doors are short, so the belt is no far reach.

don't want to distract from the main question of this thread, but is there any car that people typically agree on looking better as a 4dr than a 2dr?

I reckon the Mk1 Land Rover Discovery looks more finished as a four door than as a two door, likewise the early Range Rovers. But they're not hatchbacks (well, the Range Rover sort of is) so don't count do they?

Absolutely, I was thinking reading through this thread that the reverse is almost true when you come to box saloons and I remember thinking how bad things like 2 door mk4 cortinas look, along with 2 door orions and 2 door nova saloons.
I also though the first couple of pictures demonstrated the point of this post perfectly. Look, this is cool! No, it's just been lowered and had different wheels fitted. That doesn't make it cool, neither does calling it 'moredoors'.
Same as the rat look really, no, it's just cattle trucked. May have been cool once, because one person did it and it was different, but trying to convince the world your wrecked car is worth a fortune cos it's wibblepoo, just ain't gonna cut it!
On a positive note, loves those Intergrale's!

I'd say that's a pretty cool 5 door. You didn't say it had to be a golf.... Edit - Damn someone got there first Mmmmm.... The worlds one and only 'production' 4 door, two seat car.... Loved my one but completely useless for transporting people with lower limbs in the rear.... I will now return you to your scheduled program.... P.
