I know some local banger boys who will buy someones pride and joy 'for restoration' and shamelessly smash them in the ring. They once had an old volvo amazon with a pristine grill. A bloke restoring an amazon saw it at the meet (went there parts hunting) and offered £80 for the grill. He got told where to go, the car was going in the ring complete. It appears that there is prize money for the best looking car at the show and this prize money can be rather large! When I saw them at there yard (hunting down a Capri LSD) they had just bought an old aluminium bodied Alvis that they were chopping about in preperation for the next meet. The car cost them £400 and they'd spent another £200 tarting it up! Never did get the LSD, just an offer for my Cortina!
