tearing down the interior of my E23 728i BMW

thanks for the encouraging words. I should have tackled this a long time ago. I'll do some more scraping tomorrow. it sounds weird but I actually enjoyed the work and am so pleased to get all the wet padding out of the car, finally.

Its good to hear positive comments about classics in need. I think I've uncovered the worst of the front end rust now, and am over the shock of finding so many holes. At the rear end of the offside sill there is a hole. The rear sub-frame will have to be dropped to enable the repair. its all hassle but I think its all doable. I will not give up on this car unless much worse problems are found.

Quick update. On Friday 17th Oct I took the car to a mate of mine who is a mechanic and an MOT inspector. He is going to oversee the welding and a bunch of other repairs it needs. The welder looked the car over and said about £300 for all the welding. Bargain in my opinion. So few E23s left now, we must try to keep a few on the road.

I umm'd and aarh'd for a long time over this car. I was going to sell it for scrap but something made me want to get the rust fixed and get it a new MOT. I've owned it since 2006 and paid £175 for it. Back then you could buy a working E23 for £175. I've had lots of work done over the years and it has been a very reliable and useful car. Being a 728i it is slowish to accelerate but does return good MPG once cruising. I do like an E23 in Polaris silver.
