W124 Merc- bulletproof car. 230E's a plenty to be found from £500 but blow the lot and go for a six pot 260E or even a 300-24v if you're lucky / haggle well. It's the everyday 80's car, had a couple of them.
Or...
Alfa 166. Many are enthusiast owned so are well cared for. V6's in budget but 2.0 TS is still a sweet motor. Quality interior. Very unique Guigaro penned profile.

Can i ask what make / model it is ?? and i take it is rear wheel drive ....auto or manual ....I'm intrigued ?? This is my £900 runabout. I cant get over the level of plushness and v8 power for the money. Its even on air.

Well, some are retro and some aren't. Some cars that were in my price range a few years ago have now appreciated!
Out if price range:
205gti 900 turbo E28 Dolomite 200sx Mk4 cortina
What I'm looking at / for (not exhaustive)
306gti6 240 volvo, and anything with a t5 Rover 800 vitesse Vvc metro
As ita a daily i need to keep the engine size low enough to not cost a fortune but high enough for fun.

I drove my girlfriends dads lexus soarer 4L the other day. Even as an auto car, it was GREAT FUN! So much power!!! He said new they kick out about 270bhp, but the twin turbo version produce up to 370!!!!! Super quick and quite cheap for what it is worth knowing, very heavy cars! Everything is electric, put the key in the ignition and the steering wheel comes out towards you, seats are electric, mirrors too... The side windows even have ultra sonic to crack any ice build up! Haha

This was £500 Plus £300 for wheels and tyres, £300 for a rebuilt 1.4 engine and about £60 on a nice interior. It's not the most comfortable thing out there but it's nippy, loads of fun, cheap and easy to maintain, and insurance is cheap too

Mk2 Golf GTI I had one as a daily for 18 months before it was hit from the rear, Then bought another one which I had for 2 year's, only 8 valves but yokos and coilovers made it a riot to hoon about in, I had 41.5 mpg on the computer once, easy to work on/parts etc, And they are going up in price so keep it nice and you won't loose your dough, Both were 5 doors (practical)

MK2 Golf makes a lot of sense to me. Or a tidy 924 for something a bit different.

I bought a 924 recently for around this money so that would be my choice.
Not quick, but great fun in the twisties, with simple, bullet-proof mechanicals and currently appreciating in value.

Ive just bought a 1969 Vauxhall Cresta Deluxe for £1200.
Needs attention to the both sills and the passenger rear arch. Came with two NOS front wings and needs glass installing.
Build thread to follow soon.
