Hi All,
I have a 1973 toyota ke20 3k 1.2 I have noticed when it runs the engine sounds a little whiney, i don't know if this could be something simple like the fan belt being to tight or if a pulley or a bearing needs replacing. Could anyone help ? i can always post a video on youtube and add a link.

If so it's a case of working out the cause. If not, carry on diagnosin'. Just asking 'what is it' isn't going to yield much help via the internet. Get a good video posted. It may help.

to be honest I'm a bit of a dummy when dealing with an engine So just running it quickly without the belt shouldnt cause any problems at all ? Thanks for the reply

Running it briefly without the belt fitted will cause no damage. Prolonged running will deaden the battery and if it drives the water pump, it'll over heat but a few minutes is fine.

Do as the others have said-remove the fan belt & try it. Otherwise it could be that the valve clearances are a bit tight-I've seen that before on a K engine, so worth double checking. ANother possible is an air leak at the manifolds somewhere, as they all seem to come loose or strip the threads out of the alloy head at some point & makes them suck & run like curse word.
