Right, I’ve too many cars, too many projects, and too little love for this blackberry-flavoured Corrado – it just doesn’t float my boat the way I thought it would…

• 145k on the clock
• No tax (currently SORN), and I’ve moved my insurance…but I’ll happily escort you to the Post Office just around the corner should you wish to drive it anywhere.
• MOT until 27th October 2014 (no advisories)
• Lowered on JOM coilovers (new a couple of months ago, only on a few hundred miles – greased the threads thoroughly on installation, have the ‘C’ spanner somewhere too…)
• Upgraded to Votex Rave 16” 5-spoke alloys – budget tyres but with lots of life left. I think they really suit the car. Original speedlines are available, plenty of tread on the tyres but cracked sidewalls, so regard them as FUBAR'd
The good:
• MOT for a couple of months, no advisories...
• Recent service – new spark plugs, uprated 8mm HT leads, oil (twice – flush and replace with good quality Mobil), oil filter.
• Replaced coil pack with VW original unit
• New thermostat (old one failed and was stuck open)
• New blue temp sender – starts much better now.
• Recently replaced oil sump gasket (tracing an oil leak – hence the two oil changes!)
• Spoiler and sunroof work as they should
• Engine starts, stops, goes…makes the best engine noise I’ve ever heard.
• Had a partial front end respray by the previous owner – although it’s not perfect IMHO
• Nice big folder of paperwork documenting the history for the last 10 years (right down to the letter I got from the DVLA from failing to declare SORN!)
The not so good:
• Minor oil leak around the oil cooler (have spare ‘O’ ring to supply, may get round to doing it myself.
• Has a water leak around the thermostat housing from when I replaced it – just needs the ‘O’ ring reseating I think – again a little job I’ve never got around to doing. Annoying thing to track down…
• Interior is a little shabby – being light grey it shows the dirt, and the driver’s side lower bolster is torn but NOT collapsed.
• Adding to this is a water leak – common fault, the seal behind the door cards has failed letting water into the rear footwell. The car’s been dry stored since last November so it’s bone dry but I haven’t fixed it...
• Slight knocking from the N/S/R on ‘enthusiastic’ cornering – could be linked to the lowering…
• Tiny bit of rust bubbling up on N/S/R arch.
• I ran a compression test over last Summer as I was concerned about poor performance (turned out to be the leads/coil pack causing a misfire). This showed that the lower row of the engine are slightly down on compression (160ish as opposed to 200 – hey, it’s a 145k engine). Topping up with oil restored it to 200, so it could at some point use a lower end rebuild. The engine still pulls really well but I thought best to mention as a cursory search of this – or any other forum I frequent – would show my documenting this. I do have a Mk3 2.8 VR6 with lower mileage that I started to break but ran out of time, energy and enthusiasm.
• Likes to run a little hot at this time of year…most do.
• Fan can be a little temperamental – can work on all 4 settings when it chooses to…
• Usual stone chips in bumper, rust bubbling up in N/S/R arch. See pics below.
• Alpine H/U won’t be included. Can supply a ‘period’ (ie. Old, spare) unit if you like…
I like to think I’m honest to a fault, and have tried to cover everything I can remember - just painting a clear picture of what's what.
Have got a few spare parts to throw in: replacement ‘crack pipe’ (to help track down water leak), coil pack, leads, clutch plate and friction disc (with one eye on replacement engine) and whatever I’ve got in the tool box.
Given the short MOT, lack of tax and all the issues mentioned I think £750 ono is a fair price.
Viewing available in Braintree, Essex pretty much any time this month (I’m off work) – test drives are a little iffy due to insurance situation but there’s some private space available…
Feel free to ask any questions, PM or email xp_mckenna AT yahoo.co.uk. Thanks for looking!
More up-to-date pics to follow…I’m off to throw a bucket of water over it now…
