That's gorgeous! The only thing I would do with that is fit the original tail lights with Amber indicators looks like those have been tinted red? Those mondy alloys suit it too :-)

Thanks, yeah i thought the Mondy alloys looked ok, i have a set of RS 7 spoke diamond cuts on my other car, was going to try them on this but they are 17's so thought they might look a bit big. I only noticed the tail lights yesterday when i was washing it, i think one of the previous owners might have tinted the rear lights, i know some came like it, Have got a few sets on my watch list on ebay but they seem to fetch a good price.

I think the rear lights have been tinted with that spray tint you can buy, because it looks like the reverse lights are red too. There may be a way of removing the tint without damaging the lights?

That's a lovely example, been lusting after an XR3i recently had a couple of them about 10 years ago. Plenty of smiles per mile.

Looking at them again I would agree with the above, 90spec ones were more smoked rather than red. If you google it you'll see what we mean.
You should be able to get replacements i'd think. I may even have original spotlights and brackets from my old S2 knocking around if you ever wanted them.

Nice car!
In 1988 my grandfather bought a new base model Escort, and we went with him to the dealership to pick it up. I clearly remember seeing a red Escort in the showroom which appeared very fancy as it had red mirrors. It must have impressed me very deeply, as I was 5 years old at that time...

Yeah that would be good let me know if you do have them and want to get rid of them. I have got some standard rear ones on my watch list. Cheers Dave

Very nice, looks like you have got yourself a nice one there.
Picking up on the "I am sure they felt quicker when I was 17", yep, these days they are nothing special in the performance department. The one area I find to be good though is the low rev pull - the difference between an 8v and 16v. If it is flat though, a new camshaft is required as the CVH engine does a good job of wearing them out and grounding the lobes down

That is very ruddy nice indeed... Surely the XR range of Fords is set to become rarer than the RS's that seem to cost more than a house...?!?!?!

I wanted one of these forever.. Still not got one! The handling used to seem fantastic, is it still or are my rose tinted specs still on?

With regard to the rear lights, if it is tint spray it'll come off with the misses nail varnish remover. Done it a few times with no damage to the lenses.

Sorted most of the minor niggles out, had the tracking done and the wheels balanced, gave it a good polish on Sunday and she came up quite well. Got a set of standard lights on their way just waiting for them to turn up.
