I don't think the stretch looks too bad on the car and I like that it has an older looking tyre pattern. I don't know about it looking scene but I think it looks more like the sort of subtle mod carried out on a sleeper or as you say an OEM optional extra. Either way it looks very purposeful on them. Maybe if you do decide to go for a wider tyre see if you can get a period looking tyre. It'll really get people guessing then. Who did you use to do the banding? I much prefer the way yours are done compared to the usual 'stepped down' way of doing it. The cars looking great. What a find!

Bonnet looks good, paint match looks 100% in the pics. I reckon a 185 might be about right, if u go wider ie 195 u may end up with a lower profile. Its amazing to think that a big motor like that came with 175 tyres on the lower specs even with the 2.8. Must have been entertaining in the wet/snow.

I really love this Granada for it's condition and the direction you are taking it. It really is a stunner. However, please take no offence if I say that IMO the wheels are a bit too wide. With so much depth they appear smaller in diameter than they actually are. I don't know what width they are, but 7" or 7 1/2"" would have been enough with the 195/55/14 tyres that darren mentioned above and it would have looked fantastic.
I still really love this car (and in fact all of the cars you own that I've seen on here) so don't worry about me being a picky barstid!

Ivangt6 - Yes, what you have just said is pretty much what I'm trying to achieve. I'm far too old these days for the 'scene' look I would definitely go with a period looking tyre for sure. The car is only a cruiser so won't be getting thrown around at all. My friend did the banding, he's an engineer by trade and I tasked him with making my wheels. Mine are done differently to most wheels as they are cut in a different place. It's fine to do it as long as you can fit the tyre from the rear of the wheel, as you need the channel (gulley) close enough to the the edge to be able to stretch the tyre on. I personally think it makes the wheels look much wider than they are. Hope that makes sense? If you're interested then send me a PM. Marsh300ce - Yes the bonnet has come out really well in fairness. I'm glad I got the fuel flap scoped as it's a great match to 30yr old paint on the car. All cars were like that mate, 175 is about the average size. A 205 tyre back then would be the equivalent of probably something like a Porsche or similar, something sporty and fast. Nowadays a 205 is a bog standard size for a base model Astra! Darrenh - Good shout on the calculations, just checked and the Diameter comes out similar. However my only worry of adding 20mm to the width is fouling on the rear arch. If I can get a part worn to test I will definitely. Mk2polobloke - Thanks buddy, I have no issue with you sounding like a 'picky curse word at all', although you make me sound like Jay Leno when you say "all of your cars" I've already conceded I may have got a bit too enthusiastic with the banding. The original wheels are 5.5J, I've added 2" to the front and 2.5" to the rear. So now I have 7.5J and 8J effectively. So yes I'm about 1/2" too wide, I agree. However I'm stuck with them now so got to make the most of them. They also appear wide because of the positioning of the band in the 'unconventional' position. This creates an unimpeded dish and makes them look very wide.

Love the term OEM+, its this vehicle perfectly and describes what i like best in a vehicle. Love the wheel and tyre fitment, theres nothing worse for me than fitting some boring alloys that don't work with the rest of the car, lowering it and calling it done. Theres a series two daimler sovereign on here somewhere with the same sort of look as you're going for, bloody excellent.

My word, this just keeps getting better!!!
I think once the correct tyres are fitted on those wheels and they're all in situ things will look perfectly harmonious...!

The banded wheels look good on the car Only concern I'd have is the outer rim tyre bead. I'm guessing this is now done with the bead of weld on the outer section? And the later 2.8 had 185r14 tyres if thats any help (At least that's what mine and my dad's had on them)

AtomicRooster - Thanks fella. I think I've seen that Daimler you refer to and I really like it too. I think on a big saloon car like the Granny you would really struggle to find a set of aftermarket alloys that suit it. I'm glad that you like the look I'm trying to achieve. Tomfairall - Thanks buddy, you wouldn't have loved it 12 months ago. It was a nearly white pink grifterkid - Thanks mate, yes the tyre dilemma will continue for the time being. There's still plenty to do on the car so it's by no means anywhere near being a finished article. I do really want to see it on all four wheels and the centre caps painted and fitted. Mk2cossie - Thanks mate. No the outer bead is not done on the weld. It's still the original outer bead on the wheel that it was before the banding. All that's been done has been an increase in width between the two beads. The 2.8 most certainly will have needed more grip than my poverty spec 2.0. Love your mk2 as I've been following your 24v thread.

Ok, Update time for the Granny. So first update is a word of warning. Never EVER disrespect compressed air. In all my many 15+ years in the motor industry, I've never had a tyre do this to me. I had fitted it to the rim and was blowing it up waiting for it to seal on the bead. Got to about 3 bar and then BOOM! Boy did it go. Unluckily the split was dead in line with my face and I felt the full shockwave in my eyes and ears. Needless to say I shat myself!!! My guess is it's just old and had it. It's a period Michelin tyre. Obviously didn't want to carry on. I was very, very lucky. However, you know what they say. 'If you fall off the horse, get right back on' So I fitted my Jupiter budget tyres and surprisingly they did not explode in my face like the French counterpart. So my motto is, buy cheap! Here is the results to the fruits of my labour. I'm really pleased with the look, it's also got a rather aggressive stance which was completely unexpected. As usual, all comments welcomed and appreciated.

None of this 'rubber band tyre too low to use on anything other than a billiard table' curse word, nice to see a car done properly.

A beautiful and rare old beast, i loved these when i was younger and they were a common sight. iF I WAS BEING CRITICAL, WHICH I KNOW YOU ARE FINE WITH, I THINK YOU DID ABOUT AN INCH TOO MUCH ON THE BANDING. (OOPS CAPS LOL) Great work so far, bookmarked!

You know I love this car, you know I love all your cars but I have to be honest and say that I think those wheels are just the slightest bit too wide.
However, this is just what I think and if you think this car now looks absolutely tip-top (and to be fair, IT DOES!) then that's what it is all about...!!!
I just like a slightly more slender rim if you excuse the Frankie Howerd-esque inuendo...!!!
Keep up the good work...

Commervan - Cheers mate, glad you've seen the same thing as me. AtomicRooster - Thanks mate, I'm not a fan of really low profile tyres and sump scraping. I think it looks great on certain motors (especially Germans) but it's not that practical. I like doing my own thing sometimes. darrenh - Thanks mate, when I let the jack down I was quite happy with the look. I might well go for a larger width at some point. I got the AR wrong, these tyres are actually 80! Granadaman72 - Thanks mate. I really like it too. Neil79 - Yes, agreed I've already coughed to that. However I'll have to live with them at the moment. Although what I thought about doing tonight was putting the 2" from the front on to the rear and having two more wheels banded 1.5". But that's in the future. Criticism is accepted, shouting is not Grifterkid - Cheers mate, I know I can always count on you when it comes to my cars. See above comments to neil79 and some of my previous posts. I know I've probably gone too wide but it was a judgement call at the time. I do love a bit of Frankie!!!

Small little update on this. I wanted to get some period correct number plates. So after some searching online I opted to go for these. They are the original 3D plates from the late 70s early 80s. Each letter is actually attached to the reflective backing. I like the original dealership markings on the acrylics so I'll keep them. But I do like these ones. Let me know what you guys think.
