I had noticed in the old car press that a local-ish high street was shutting for the day for a bit of a carnival and a car show. I knew there'd be some nice cars but I was a bit blown away by the actual examples on display. Someone in the organising committee must be rather well connected. But then this was St Johns Wood High Street, NW8 in that London. Charitable causes were to gain benefit and to that end they'd produced a nice brochure detailing the cars that were there and was only a quid.
The first car we came across was this pretty little Singer.
Just in front was a Porsche 356 Carrera GT, the first lightweight version delivered to the US in restored to original specification.
Across the road? A GT40 of course. Not a replica but the 1967 Brussels Motor Show car and with the same owners since 1972.
Tasty Alfa.
Mercedes 280SE Cabriolet, one of 68 RHD cars made.
Ferrari 288 GTO, original and unrestored. (272 were made)
Porsche 911 2.7 RS, early 'Touring' homologation version.
The rozzers would have had difficulty keeping up with any shenanigans...
Lamborghini Silhouette, 52 made, 35 left, 6 in the UK.
Ferrari F50
Self explanatory.
Ferrari 275GTB and Enzo
Ferrari 330 GT2+2
Face to face 1930s. Austin 7 and one of several Bentleys in attendance.
HRG Aerodynamic. Never seen one before which is unsurprising given there's only a couple in existence.
We've a photo of this C type hanging on our lounge wall that is signed to my daughter by Norman Dewis.
Its filler cap attests to its extensive race history.
So, gullwing Mercs are expensive yeah? How about one of only 29 aluminium ones, and the only one of those that was raced when new on the Mille Miglia?
A very early Aston DB4
Contrasting Lamborghinis. The Miura is one of only 7 RHD cars, ordered new by Rod Stewart.
Lamborghini Espada
Fraser Nash TT Replica. This is not a replica as in a modern recreation. Fraser Nash called them that when new as they were road going versions of the TT race cars. This car was raced at Brooklands in '35/'36.
Bugatti Type 37 GP. 'Every component is numbered and original to the car'
Face to face 1960s. Park Ward Bentley S2 Continental Drophead Coupe and Fiat 500.
Lamborghini Countach LP5000S
That's probably about half of what was there. A pretty impressive line up! There's some more photos here:
