...about road tax!
No not the perennial why is it not in the petrol etc.
Tax is/was up on the goof and being as we are criminally short of pennies month we were forced to go for the 6 month option, and as I'm sure everyone knows this costs substantially more.
Now road tax (or VED) is a statutaary requirement levied by the government. I can understand why it costs more to buy things like TV's etc on instalments - interest etc and these companies have to make money, but I find the idea that the poorer you are the more you have to pay on a basic tax like road tax abhorrant.
Surely the government isn't here to squeeze extra cash from the poor. Road tax should be the same price for 6 or 12 months!!

The arguement is that it cvosts them money to make the disc so you have the actual tax element and then the cost of the disc on top so 6 months will nver be just 50% of 12 months worth.
They also want you to take 12 months as this cuts down "month skipping" and also administration, both of which are good for their revenue and cost base.
The DVLA is actually a pseudo-private enterprise now not a government department.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I was unhappy to spend £99 on six months tax for my Sierra on monday, and £140 for a year on Mrs JS's Vectra - which will do TWELVE TIMES as many miles as mine in the next year! And probably twelve times the MPG too.

Unfortunately had to tax the Mundano for a year, cos if I do it for 6 months it runs out the same time as the Kadett That would be expensive. At times like these I regret telling them the Opels not a 1.2 anymore...

i had a real bike. it might only have been 125 but it had 6 gears (in '92!) a big chain, and loads of oil that dripped everywhere, it liked throwing the chain off and was temperamental but very, very quick and never lost a highway duel. real bikes are ones that get dirty. not summer specials. thats the only rule
