I took the family out to Beaulie Motor Museum yesterday,I must admit to being a bit dissapointed, the entry fee was astronomical and the exhibits just seemed to be rammed in there any old how,I much prefered the Haynes Museum, anyone else been to both and have a favorite? I took loads of pics but photobucket playing up,The top gear tent was pretty good though.....

I was down that way about 10 years ago and came to the same conclusion. For me the Haynes museum was much better and the red room was amazing.

Think the Haynes Museum has recently had a revamp - so hopefully better still now.

I've been to Beaulieu museum a few times and it's always 'ok' as it were... I will always happily go there but I suppose it could be changed around a bit more every now and again... Having said that, it is far better that it is there rather than is not!
With regards to the Haynes museum I've yet to go there and see what I think but I hear it's ruddy brilliant...!
Maybe I'll have to get there pretty darn soon and check it out...

Went to Haynes about 5 years ago and thought it was great. Managed to grab 10 minutes (literally as it was just about to close) in Beaulie while I was at the spring autojumble a few weeks ago and was slightly dissapointed.

Beaulieu is best when it's autojumble time , I aint been for years but thats a truly impressive weekend . Haynes is awesome too , especially when the Gathering was there a few years back !

if your ever in Athens the Hellanic Motor Museum is highly recommended... some awesome and rare motors in there alongside some surprisingly boggo but very cool classics, Merc Gullwing, not far from an immaculate herald convertable for example, and some loverly base spec auto union stuff next to some 30's race car BMW's... Patina or not?.. Should keep the retro wheel whores happy too... spiral ramp between the 3 floors with a collection of wheels through the ages displayed... I make no apologies for any trouser accidents the above images may cause...

Went to beaulieu in 2010 and was shocked by the prices, but thought it must be amazing. Sadly i felt it wasn't, what with the cars with metal cut out of them (sills on an old Morris), and the train ride over stinking drains. If it had been £5 or £6 to get in, i would have been happy, but at £20 it's crazy

Think the Haynes Museum has recently had a revamp - so hopefully better still now. Yes it has. Went to meet a chap who lives nextdoor a few weeks back and the new building looks awesome. Have yet to go. We moved to Taunton just over 3 years ago and then I figured I may as well wait until they'd completed the refurb. Will hopefully get along there in the next few months. Useful feedback on Beaulieu. I'd considered a road trip there one day but won't worry if the better museum is less than an hour from me.

Haynes every time for me - a huge amount of cars and variation on display.
I found Beaulieu to be a small, slightly disappointing version of Coventry Transport Museum. And £20 is thievery (Coventry is free).
On the upside, the James Bond exhibition at Beaulieu was good.

I think if you went to Beaulieu for an entire day our you'd end up feeling shortchanged, the actual museum simply isn't big enough. I find that combining it with one of the two autojumbles of the year is the perfect mix. Entry for both is combined, and I save myself from spending money I haven't got by spending a couple of hours int he museum and save myself feeling ripped off that the musueum only kills a couple of hours by wandering round the autojumble poking at stuff I can't afford. By way of illustration, there's this thread here; retrorides.proboards.com/thread/156835/beaulieu-2013-international-autojumble-pics#.U4hxSijTCbACan't comment about Haynes as I've never been, though often meant to. One day...

lived 5 miles from Sparkford for 3 years in the late 80s and again 2004-2011 and it's Haynes every time for me. Been to Beaulieu a couple of dozen times over the year - but as above I only go now when there's something on like the autojumble as the exhibitions are underwhelming - however, there's lots more for the family in the immediate area (particularly if the weather's good)?

I went to Beaulieu many years ago when I was about 14 or 15
They had Ari Vatanen's mk2 Rothmans Escort
I blame that moment on all my subsequent old Ford follies ;-)
