It is with a heavy heart that I am putting my 205 up for sale. It is the most fun-to-drive car I have ever owned, as well as being one of the most practical and economical. It does, however, need a bit of time spending on it that I simply don't have right now (three other cars, a house renovation and a new job). A couple of weeks ago one of the engine mounts perished, leading to an intermittent knocking noise from excessive engine movement. Sod's law says it's probably the rear mount but I haven't investigated further. If the car doesn't sell I'll cash the tax in and replace all the mounts when I get the time, but I have none to spare right now.
Aside from the engine mount the car is great. It doesn't use oil or water and averages 40mpg around the doors. On a trip to Northumberland it got 47mpg from enthusiastic A-road driving. The GT was the 5 door version of the XS, and the short gearing means it's not far behind the 1.6 GTI for acceleration (9.9 seconds to 60). The twin-choke TU3 engine is a peach and the car corners and stops as it should. The stripy sports interior is as new except for a tiny hole in the corner of the passenger seat base, and the red paint is still red and shines up nicely. The interior also stays completely dry in the worst weather, which is always a welcome bonus with cars of a certain age. The bodywork has a few blemishes, as follows:
Scrape above drivers rear arch
Small dint in tailgate
Crazing of paint on tailgate
Somebody has painted the front and rear valances black. The original red is coming through in places
The passenger rear door shut/sill was repaired for the last MOT due to rust. They have done a good job but I haven't got round to spraying it red yet. There is NO RUST anywhere else on the body
Numerous other parking dents etc, but the car is straight overall and wouldn't take too much work to look mint.
Close up pictures of specific areas available on request.
I replaced the original 13" GT steels with some 14" partner wheels with decent tyres (rears getting a bit low) but the original rims are included. They need a repaint and the tyres are scrap however. The car has also had a pair of brand new front springs and front brake pads in my care, as well as a service 1000 miles ago. Aside from a pair of new wiper blades, it has needed nothing else.
