Right, where to start. I'm 18 and i currently drive this; It's a 1990 Mk2 polo, with a rebuilt ABD engine with GT cam, weber twin choke, 4 branch manifold etc. I also put in a new clutch, new discs and pads etc, and new shocks. I really like it but the paint is very ropey despite what the pictures show and its also pretty damn uncomfortable too. Today i bought a cheap 1985 Mercedes W123 Estate, with 140,000 miles and mechanically its really good. Its also a 2.0 5 speed manual. The arches are rotten but it came with genuine Mercedes front wings (new). I'm thinking of getting a set of Fuchs wheels and lowering it, just making it cool and less grandad spec. I need to sell the polo if i keep the Merc, but naturally i feel like i've made a huge mistake. What would you keep? Thanks

In short - whatever you want to keep! It sounds like you're pretty attached to the Polo and you'll regret selling it, but it's often fun to move on to something else. You could always get another Polo if you miss it that much.

I can't imagine the merc being that much fun to drive tbh
But as you say having it may make you realise how much you like the Polo
Or try something different altogether

If I could go back in time I would and I'd stop myself from ever selling my corrado. I put it up for sale as I thought I was bored of it, but I always had doubts about actually selling it. I ended up swapping it for a bike carbed mk2 golf that was a nightmare that I couldn't wait to get rid of.
Moral is, if you are having doubts don't get rid because you WILL regret it

Tough one, both very different cars. The Merc will be a V nice thing to drive and look ace dropped down (plus you can always kip in it at shows), but it is going to cost a good bit more to run than the polo (I'm surprised at 18 that the insurance isn't a killer).

If it was me, I'd keep the Polo and sort the paintwork.
On the other hand, you must be getting a bit bored with it or your eyes wouldn't be wandering to other cars. Maybe the Merc isn't the right car for you?
For me, cars usually have a boredom range of 18 months to two years, after that, I usually change. I'll have had my Mk2 Golf three years this November so that'll be a record for me......

No matter how awkward, uncomfortable, unreliable or how much money you wasted on it, you'll always look back fondly on your first and dream of the day you get reunited. That's why I've still got mine and always plan to. Bucket of fish heads now and then keeps her going.

Yep I went back to my first (Accord hatch) as well. "Better" is always open to interpretation & depends upon how it is used. Any option to set the Polo aside (off road) to cut costs while you have some fun with something different?

I'm really starting to regret getting the merc haha. I think it's made me realise how much I like the polo! I think that this says it all to me... Maybe you should stick with the Polo for now whilst you're still a pretty young driver as the cost of everything is quite a fair old whack these days!!! Whilst you're buzzing around in the Polo maybe you can save some squids (which is never easy!) so in a few years time you can buy something else and keep the Polo stashed away... If you are thinking it might be wrong then it most likely will be wrong, KEEP THE POLO...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, thats If thats your first ride...... I had a Vauxhall Victor 2300 back in 1987,got it from an auction for 30 quid, I was just 17. you could see the road between your legs, the wings had less metal than a Chinese cracker, the dashboard was a mishmash of a dozen previous owners addinIfg and removing things (it was butchered to feck) with live wires hanging everywhere the brakes were curse word, it overheated whenever it wanted to, the windows if you wound them down - wouldnt wind up straight, ANNND I loved it, never forget your first ride dude Will all its foilbles, the fun with friends, and um, girls I had it that old brilliant heap will last till the end of days Think I'm trying to say is keep your first one for as long as you can, the rest just aint the same
