Hi All,
Testing the water with the sale of one of my E23's. It is with deep regret that I am doing this, as I absolutely love 'Jethro', however an impended new arrival in the shape of a mini me, a sincere lack of space (2 x E23's, my Merc 190E, 525d and my Zafira) and a willingness to get my 190E back on the road, mean that something, unfortunately has to give.
I bought this car from this very forum in June 2013 and to be fair, it has remained largely unchanged since. I did fix some niggles which appeared when I bought it, but mainly I've serviced It, fuelled it, washed it and driven it. I did take it for an MOT, replacing a pair of wiper blades and a battery clamp to get it back on the road for another year.
So, the facts:
MOT: 15th February 2015
TAX: None - I have recently re-taxed it for 6 months, this is available by separate negotiation..
Mileage: Reading around 93,000 - advised by the previous owner that the SI board failed meaning the mileage did not roll on for a bit, so it is estimated true mileage is an extra 10k on top. This fault was rectified and everything works as it should now.
Car is in fairly good condition, although there is some damage to the O/S rear arch & door, it is visible in the pics and I will take further ones tomorrow. It was like this when I bought it and on my 'to do' list, but something I probably won't get round to doing now.
It drives very well indeed - OK it's not going to win any speed trials and it definitely isn't what I would call 'nimble', but as a long distance cruiser it's second to none. I drove it back from Birmingham when I bought it, this is probably the longest trip out I've had in it, but it performed as it should, temperature gauge sits dead centre, there are no strange noises/clunks/bangs etc.
The engine is absolutely fantastic - both of my E23's have great engines that run well, but I have to say this one is definitely the better of the two. If I could be bothered I'd swap them over, but that's not going to happen! Starts first turn of the key, every time (no matter how long it has been stood). Auto box shifts smoothly and kicks down well.
Interior - good condition, drivers seat is sagging a bit on the right hand side which is common, but not too bad compared to some. Certainly not enough to give you back ache over a distance. Still has period Blaupunkt cassette player which works fine as does electric aerial.
I don't know what else to say really. It's a fantastic old barge that will be very much missed. Ideally I do need to sell as I need to shred the amount of cars I have. The price is £825 as it stands, there is some negotiation there. On that note though, no I won't accept £300 or a Playstation with a load of games I will never play. This car will stay with me if needs be!
Any questions - get in touch! I will be only too happy to answer them.
Viewing welcome, please PM me to arrange.
