not teaching granny to suck eggs as even mine looks rough (its copper hose, bit softer than cunifer, plus rich's post are steel which are easier to get looking good) but i have the same generic sealey/machine mart flaring kit. for double flares like the right hand pic... image removed clamp your cleaned hose end in the stock, using the ridge on the die as a depth guide image removed oil the die and pipe end then squash a single flare, until the die bottoms out against the stock image removed image removed remove the die and use the cone to form the second flare image removed image removed I can manage the initial stage but the second part is where it all seems to go wrong. My flaring kit doesnt have the second marker line it (struggling to find a picture of any like it). I have only tried this in the house but will give it another go tomorrow in the garage.

A bit of non brake line fitting progress yesterday, wiring is starting to go back in. It looks like I need to be doing bubble flares, which I think are okay, pictures this evening.

If you get really really stuck with the brake lines, I can flare them with my kit for you, I am only in Bristol, I'd offer to come help but I am flat out with my BMW and Landrover, Dig For Victory Show, ect. ect. Just thought I'd offer, as you aren't a millions miles away.

But it does look at lot better now Also started to clean up the steering rack, no picture though! (getting bad at this) Do you organise Dig for victory? only spotted the videos last year but it looks epic!

Do you organise Dig for victory? only spotted the videos last year but it looks epic! No worries on the offer front. Just didn't want to come across as the type to criticise without offering further input. I don't organise, par sé, I do the post-war vehicle timeline organisation on the day, and have a 'vehicle management' team and I am on site for the days leading up to and after on set put-up and take-down from the start of set-up to the end. In for the long run on that one. I got involved with the show from vehicle restoration and repair through the Shopland MV Collection, who also organise the show and I am in deep now. Love it, its such a buzz. If you are free that weekend, strongly recommend coming down, and definitely enter the mini to show when its finished.

interested on your thoughts on the rust converter solution.
i'v found it gets quite frothy when applied and dries very textured and rubbery, with some brush strokes too. i know its not such an issue for floor pans with high build and thick layers of paint/coverings. what do you think about it ?

I have only really tried two sorts... the kurust (IIRC) is tried on one of my modern cars, seemed to stop things getting worse... but that was more of a liquid that didnt provide any sort of thickness. I used standard hammerite on my last mini, which lasted pretty well, last I knew some of the parts done were 5 years-ish ago and I'm told still going well. I think the standard stuff although going thick still required a lot of prep work, getting the part back to almost perfect before doing it, brush strokes were definately part of this! So on this one I decided to try the hammered effect paint from hammerite its technically a direct to rust type paint, but removing the worst of it and giving it a good coat does the trick. I'll post a close up pick, but I think it gives a better finish than the smooth with less prep

Sooo... list of things to do: -Front radius arms, ball joints ect. -Handbrake cable (need to order) -Headlights (new bowls and refit) -New door seals -Gearbox needs looking at... might be an issue with clutch or 2nd gear -headlining -Carpet -Seats -Engine in and test... fingers crossed -Buy new exhaust brackets for RC40 -Finish the door... (spotted a crack whilst painting) -Flexi fuel lines -New rubber seals for rear lights Best get cracking!

Kewl project, and nice colour!
Minispares still sell plastic headlight bowls which work well held in with stainless rivets for a corrosion free solution (I've found).

Thanks I seen Quentin Wilsons mini and was sold on the colour! Funnily enough, I ordered some from minispares just the other day, currently sat at work waiting for me
