Haven't seen one in ages. We had a Rancho back in the early 1980s, the first brand new car that my Dad had bought.

Love the early ones. Must be so rare.
Very, very innovative at the time.

Haven't seen one in ages. We had a Rancho back in the early 1980s, the first brand new car that my Dad had bought. That's true... They are nigh on extinct. But, we saw one on the way to Paris, on the road, driven and not fallen apart - a pre-facelift Phase 1 I've just checked leboncoin - you can't even buy many. Yikes!

I'd love an early one... We had a phase 2 2000 TXE back in the mid 90's and it was superb! A Quadra would be superb...

My'93 Espace 2 daily which I've run since early '97. Doubles up as tow car for my SIMCA projects. It's been a great car and the galvanising is only just beginning to give up....unlike another K reg Espace I bought for spares (to avoid the ridiculous cost of some of Renault's parts)... that car had totally rotted around the back suspension mountings while the front end was like new.... Matra's traditional 'quality control'...!!!

My parents owned a Mk2 Espace V6. Pile of curse word to be honest. The radiator scolded my mother with boiling water in the cabin, it broke down all the time and we eventually sold it for a Volvo 240. With that said though, they are interesting, and now rare. I saw a Mk2 today here in Barcelona. Not seen a Mk1 in a very long time though!

We had one as a company car.....it was the md's, I remember how exiting it was when they came out, and we had one of the first. I remember how far back you sat... Miles away from the windscreen! It was a brilliant vehicle, it did age quickly, in typical French fashion, and it did not make a good older car- unlike the 10 cavalier mk2 estates also on the fleet. And where did they go? As rare as the espace now!

Best family car ever! On some models you could even swing the front seats around to have a nice conversation with your passengers, when not driving of course

Rose tinted glasses folks. We had a `03 one a few years ago, against my better judgement. Biggest piece of curse word ever. I never liked Renaults but that sealed the deal for me - they make some of the worst pieces of !%&$ around.

Is that called brown tinted glasses? Ours just had injectors that needed at gentle tap with a hammer every now and then.

I've currently got a 98 Mk3 TD Grand Espace which was bought to help with clearing out my late fathers house. Paid virtually nothing for it, it has starship mileage on it yet has been 100% reliable, great to drive and returns 40+ mpg. I prefer driving it to any of the other seven cars I have (which includes Mercedes, Range Rovers and a Jeep)! When I'm done with it later this year I'll probably chuck it on ebay and buy a newer one as I like it so much. It will owe me nothing as it's usefulness has already paid for itself. My only complaint is the lack of available workshop manuals. Even Renault's Dialogy discs have very little about them.

We had a mk1 and then a mk2 when I was young. I loved them, especially sitting in the boot seats. When we moved to France we kept the right-hand drive mk1 and had french plates on it. It would give people a bit of a scare sometimes, like when my Grandad was sleeping in the front seat.
I learned to drive in the mk2. But any metal bits holding the fibreglass did tend to rot. One of the rear doors was nearly falling off when we got rid of it.
