It would appear I have a knack of starting 'build' threads on here before fading into obscurity and then moving the project on to another poor soul with big ideas and right intentions. Well, it looks like I'm doing it again, although this time I am going to finish this one. So basically this car started out as a road going RS2000 then, I don't when, it was given the rally treatment. I've not been through it with a fine tooth comb yet but from the looks it's been properly done: 5 linked, coil overs, forest arches (obviously), LSD and I'm lead to believe it's got a quaife 'box too (still to check). So yeah, plans are to turn it into a road and track slag but it's going to be a long and expensive journey! There's plenty to get me started like removing those horrid roof vents and such so I'll try and keep this one updated..... Obligatory pics:

I know what you mean about starting a thread and not keeping the car...this looks a cool project though and one really worth seeing through!

Wow! Where did you find that? So much potential right there and will be killer once done. So what are your plans?

Cheers, a mate in the local Ford club told me about it. Has been stored in a big barn/workshop for quite a few years and the owner had finally decided he wasn't actually going to get around to starting it. Meant having to sell the Westfield on to fund it, but seems as we rarely get good enough weather to drive it the decision wasn't that difficult.
Plans wise I want to make it a comfortable(ish) driver for the roads and a bit of a weapon for the track. I'm going to need to find replacement doors as I wan't glass windows instead of plastic, I've been given steel bonnets and boots as I'll be getting rid of the fiberglass ones that are currently on the car. The front arches are fiberglass also so they need to be replaced with alloy ones too.
Plenty to do anyway, bodywork is first on the agenda though...

Well, I've done very little as the missus had packed the garage with furniture, did manage to have a little poke around with a screw driver though.... Not sure if I want to go poking around the back of it now.....

I carried out a similar 'poking a Mk2 Escort with a screwdriver' exercise with my estate not so long ago, it's a very good way of removing your rose-tinted spectacles innit? Was this an original flat-front RS or was it converted? Always thought the flat fronters were pretty cool. Good luck with this one anyway, hope you keep it and get it on the road.

Yep, had the same issue with both the Mk1's, no such thing as a solid Escort....
As far as I know this has always been a flat front Mk1, still waiting for pics from when it was in use some years back.

then figure out how to get the new shell over onto the Island...... That's simple. Merely give the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co both arms and legs and probably a brace of kidneys and Robert's your Mother's brother! Must be one of the dearest bits of water in the world to cross, unless they've dramatically reduced the prices? Yeah right! And despite the shell change, this shall remain bookmarked!

You're not wrong there mate. Return journey was best part of £500! So yeah, after setting off from mine at 5.30am Sunday morning, catching the ferry over while watching the news of 'impending severe weather warnings', a cancelled return journey, a two hour epic driving around looking for a hotel with secure enough parking, a 13 hour wait in a carpark all day Monday I finally managed to get on the bumpy 2.15am sailing back home Tuesday morning! And here it is, tucked up in it's new home! I guess all I need to do now is bolt all the bits back on....

Nice looking shell. Are you going to make it all one colour (please say yes!)?? Yeah I probably will, there's a few small areas that need attention too so may as well. Also picked this up a few days ago, need to send it off for porting but it comes with solid lifters and NA cams Also might have found an Atlas axle with LSD, all being well I'll be able to talk the current owner into parting with it for my English unit.

Not much to report, I've managed to knock the roll-over jig up, added some additional steel into it to make it a touch secure and it's doing the job nicely. Also finally managed to sell the Fazer which freed up some funds to buy a Tony Law manifold and fully floating Atlas axle casing. Next step is to tidy up a few bits on the floor then try and colour match the paint that's already on there as best as possible.... Oh, and I couldn't help but mock the engine up, motivational exercise and all that

So today I managed to avert a possible catastrophy. The heads away getting ported, polished and flowed at the moment so I thought I'd take some time out to sort the Kent cam pulley's out that I won on Ebay, by sort out I mean a clean up and re-anodize at work. As can be seen from the picture they're a touch on the grubby side so the plan was to anodize the outers read and just give the inside a quick tickle in the blast cabinet and spray them up black. Once the inners came back nice and clean I spotted what looked like a crack, so being on the safe side (and seems as it's my job) I crack tested them.... Safe to say I dodged a rather expensive bullet there, although I lost £60 from the ebay bargain there's a very good chance I've saved myself a rather costly engine rebuild in the future!
