Looking forward to seeing what they do with a Mk1 XR2. As the years have gone by I've started to quite like them  As for Mike...he's fine. Might not want to be stuck in a lift with him for a long time but he's enthusiastic about the cars and all that. I was reading on FaceBook that Mike gets a fair amount of abuse from people which is a shame. Thought people might find it amusing to see his comments (second paragraph) After 11 years I'm tired of explaining labour costs on the show..almost every hour! Edd plays the role of a home mechanic, anything that's done outside the shop we always factor the costs, we split the profits we make or reinvest into more cars. We don't really care about the profit..it's nice...but we are more interested in saving cars. Most of what we do is achievable with a good set of tools, guts and time...and for the record I work just as hard and I'm also a fully experienced mechanic. It's just the show isn't made that way. No doubt I receive dozens of insults now as usual but please just try to enjoy the show after all the car is always the star in Wheeler Dealers.Mike then went on to say a bit later... Thanks all for being so nice..really positive stuff about the new series tonight. only 1 death threat from and American guy who got disgruntled about the Willys Jeep show…he'll get over it…here's the listing of all the new cars for this run and the dates. A great mix and some real crackers for Edd to fix. |

Mazda RX-7 in two weeks' time  The first known sighting of one on mainstream telly since the days when Clarkson had only just thinking of himself as an institution rather than a caricature. Can't wait I think that after Fast N Loud, Wheeler Dealers is the best car programme on telly and has been for some years now. Brewer clearly has absolute enthusiasm for his subject, which in my world is much preferable to the endless succession of American car programmes where the "presenters" are only after the biggest profit and the cars themselves seem an almost onerous necessity to get there. On WD the profit has clearly always been secondary to the actual rescue of the cars themselves. And as for those who moan about Edd's time not being accounted for, presumably they're the same people who staunchly support Top Gear because "it's not a car programme, it's light entertainment". It's a fantasy, just chill and enjoy it  . RX-7 in two weeks, did I mention that? Excited  ... |

I think that after Fast N Loud, Wheeler Dealers is the best car programme on telly and has been for some years now. Yup, if all other car programs disappeared I'd be happy enough if these two remained. For an American show Fast N Loud has pretty much nailed it - likeable characters, fantastic cars, amusing etc. Enjoyed last night's Wheeler Dealers. I'd forgotten how good those Mk1 XR2s look - the shape, the subtle alterations, the oh-so-80s graphics. Was impressed with how little they spent to get it in good order too - buying that knackered one and selling the rest of it was definitely a good move. |

What they didn't tell you last night was that front end damage wasn't there before Mr Brewer drove into the back of the camera car on 1st filming... Lol
They then had to film the scenes again to give the impression the damage was already there

My mate has driven that very car, a couple of years back and he confirmed the whining 'box.
Sunburst Red is the best colour for these, imo.

When I first came on this site a few weeks ago I did a search for Wheeler Dealer stuff on here to see what people were saying about it - what I found was mostly negative which was disappointing.
I would just like to say that WD is probably the only reason why I think I could get a retro vehicle - watching it has made me believe I could take one on if I purchased wisely. I do have some mechanical knowledge, basic servicing stuff mainly, but watching their work makes me think I could do more.
I think a lot of people don't understand that it is a TV show and the majority of people watching it won't be people who will do something similar like you guys. It is there mainly to entertain but with some useful advice there too. I have noticed in some programs they gloss over some details but you can't put everything in each program and often some work which can be done on any car is covered in another program in the series. A good example of this is paint/body work - some programs have shown the repainting/polishing techniques, some haven't but it's clear it has been done - the time given over to show how to do somehting different or something unique to that vehicles. It does highlight what can be done, what people are doing and how much these cars should be valued.
I don't have a problem with MB - he's always positive about the cars, despite some of them being very marmite. It's clear that he knows his way around a car but maybe the persona on TV doesn't show that to the full. I've seen him on various TV shows for years and it's clear he's been in the car business a long time, and further back too as his dad was a car guy (hotrods!) too.
Haven't seen the start of the new series yet (have it recorded) but I understand they are going through their dream cars?? Sounds great and I can't wait to watch it.
Long may WD continue I say!
Fast and Loud I love too but I am worried they are just going down the American Hotrod route of showing them going to shows, concentrating on relationships between the workers etc, rather than the detail of the builds which it started out well with. Last few episodes have had a lot of "growing the business" stuff rather than interesting builds, hopefully this won't last too long... |

I always enjoy WD, and the production of it has come on in leaps and bounds since the early days. Brewer can be a little bit over the top at times but I like his enthusiasm for even fairly unremarkable cars.
People banging on about labour costs on the show absolutely do my swede in though. I've just spent an hour on my drive fixing a coolant leak. I didn't then go to the cashpoint, get forty quid out, and give it to myself as payment. Surely part of it is encouraging people to have a crack themselves which is why Mr C says "A garage would charge you..... to do this". Is that such a hard concept to grasp?

I'm glad someone mentioned the damage on the xr2 was done my mike as I do sometimes wonder if the program is a bit set up
as some of the cars seem a bit straight forward to mend and the inside of the fog light and the damaged bumper looked really clean and free of dust and mud I did think that's just been done to make the re-build more interesting, turns out I was right about just been done but was an accident by what you've mentioned, as you have some inside knowledge did your friends genuinely advertise there fiesta and mike brewer phoned up popped round and brought it, as I always thought there was a possibility the cars were brought by staff at a normal price then sold on to the show cheaply with a few easy fix problems edd china does his magic 9 times out of 10 small to medium profit happy days, they obviously make there money / wages from the show not the cars, the Porsche boxter episode really made me suspicious brought it really cheap as it had a fault with the auto gearbox changed the gearbox oil all fixed, when I buy a car with no problems I get it home and the gearbox turns out to have a problem its a one year only model with no available parts and 3 year back order for a new one you need a new mortgage to pay for and 15 specialist tools to fit that main dealer wont sell as they want to do the job for £1000 an hour labour (ok slight exaggeration but you know what I mean).
Not taking anything away from the show I do like it have it sky plus record and all that, getting to watch anything car related is a bonus and if its about cars in the uk all the better just wondered if its 100% above board.
