After six or so years off the road, my 1986 Metro Turbo is back on the road. Sort of.
It runs, starts and stops, but is pretty reluctant to come on boost. That said, it can be driven okay – I even went to Tesco in it yesterday – but a big problem is the rear suspension. It’s utterly atrocious with no damping whatsoever. It’s to the point where a speed bump can have you out of your seat and you're thrown everywhere even on a slightly uneven surface.
When it was mucho welded a long time ago the garage had it all apart with the rear subframe out etc. Since it came back the back hasn’t been so happy to stay up and the Hyrdagas tending to go flat over time. I’ve pumped it up a bit myself with one of the hand pumps you can get off ebay to a respectable height, but there is a definite slant on the back with the driver’s side sitting lower than the passenger side.
Any ideas what’s causing it? I’m thinking one of the displacers might be shot but not certain - is it hard to physically replace one of these? By rights it should ride quite well with the Hydragas.
