Hello all, So after acquiring something a little like this: Decided that I shouldn't just bin it, and would like to 'upcycle' it into something useful. I'm thinking of making a little wooden top to fit on the top and using it as a small table... Anyone else have any suggestions? Matt

Make a padded wooden seat pad that fits on top
With a bit of effort, hand tools like a Dremmel, cut out ribs that were between bottles but leave floor in.
Now you have a handy picnic carrier/hamper that converts into a stool and or storage space.
I used to have one as a third seat between the front seats in my VW panel van.

An old coke crate is a much valued tool in my work shop, strong, light with a padded board to sit on and a rough old board to stand on,I would not be without it,had it around 20 years now.mind you I never drink Coke, but it is wonderful for cleaning non ferrous metal or for removing toilet scale .

I would install a 12v transformer and a car cd radio and speakers. Would make a nice outdoor sound system

The most amazing crate I ever saw was a Japanese beer crate converted into a little ride on child's pedal quad type thing.
I'm going to do one when I get chance so that's my suggestion.

Quite jealous of yours, I remember there used to be loads of these knocking around at some sketchy shops where we played when I was growing up.

That one in pic has lost all recognition of it being a crate though so a waste IMHO.

I've got a stack of old Bulmers Cider crates (along with pretty much everyone else I know in Hereford) and they get used for everything from wokbenches to emergency extra seating.
My mate has a load of old Coke and beer crates round the back of one of his sheds. No-one wants them, as they as they are a different size and therefore non-compatible with the 'standard' Hereford crate!

I have an old crate with all my detailing bits and bobs, polishes etc, whack an old booster seat on the top and bingo a little seat ideal for sitting on to clean the wheels of the car

Some good suggestions So the plans are made, as I may soon be moving out, I decided to make a small table that can be used as an extra seat, so with a padded top, great for in the garden too when its BBQ season... So here it is... The wood shown is a little bit too thick, so going to find something a little thinner, which should hopefully fit on the lip on the inside of the crate. Should then be making a padded top to go onto the wood similar to this sort of thing Will need a good clean too... M

MysteryMachine's new laser cutter could engrave that into the wood for you!

Make it hinged so you can put stuff in it.

Make it hinged so you can put stuff in it. I like this idea The top will sit onto the small ledge used for stacking, so will be able to remove the top

Just spotted this thread and I'm probably too late to pitch in with my suggestion... I was going to say about mounting it on top of a 4ft/5ft pole (with a suitable base) and putting a few light fittings in some of the empty segments (maybe across the middle four?) to make a really funky standard lamp. That's certainly what I would do with it. It might not make any sense with the way I've described it, but in my head it looks awesome and something I'd definitely have in my house. As for the suggestion of the wooden top with a Coke logo, as mentioned, I could easily engrave/etch any logo, any size, into that wood. Whatever happens I look forward to seeing the results and I'm now just gutted that I threw out a load of drinks crates a few weeks back!

I like that idea, incorporating light may well be something I need to do Just a quick google found this Might well be in contact about the etch/engrave
